Wes Ryan Wes Ryan 6'1" | CG De Beque | 2021 State CO – De Beque
For the last four years, if you look up some of the state’s top scorers, one name that constantly came across was Wes Ryan Wes Ryan 6'1" | CG De Beque | 2021 State CO . Ryan leads every player in the state in career points for current players as he has 1464 overall and will look to push out even further as he is having a career season. Ryan is averaging 28 points a game through five contests and has his Dragon squad off to a 5-0 start yet again. He is already is a state champion and is looking for another state title, and with him grabbing 9.4 rebounds to go along with it with help from teammates as well, it looks as if they have a chance to bring it all home. Nobody in the state is dominating in the ways that Ryan is, so he is indeed a player to watch.
Dominic Coleman – Granada
Granada is off to a 4-1 start, and their talented do-it-all junior is a big reason for it. In Coleman’s sophomore season, he was already the teams leading scorer and best player and put high expectations on himself to come back even better. Well, through five games, it sure looks that way. Coleman is doing everything that the Bobcats need as he is up to 23.2 points and 6.6 rebounds a game. He sees the game differently than his peers; he is getting to his spots on the floor and capitalizing. As long as he is playing this way, there may not be many players that can slow him down, so expect more explosive games.
Kade Comstock – Fleming
Fleming seems to be finding their way and looking to build some chemistry around their talented senior. They are 3-2 on the season but should be ready come league play as they have one of the more talented players in the entire class in Senior wing Kade Comstock. Comstock is a natural scorer who has elevated his game. He has made massive improvements and came back ready to lead. He is averaging 18.8 points a game, which is amongst the top in 1A and securing 8.8 boards. Although he is a talented scorer, he is a team-first guy who finds his teammates, gets them involved, and is locked in defensively. He is at 4.4 steals a game, turns them into scoring opportunities, and opposing teams have to prepare for him—solid start and a player to watch this season.
Jon Kochavi – Denver Jewish Day
One of the best players and most natural scorers in 1A for the past few seasons has been Jon Kochavi. Kochavi is closing in on 1,000 points scored if he can keep up his average and does not look to be slowing down as he has scored double figures in every game this year. He has led the Tigers to a 4-1 record, and the only loss came in an overtime game against one of the top teams in the class with the most talented player in the 2023 class on the team. Kochavi has shown that he can score with the best of them; he has a great understanding of the game and has the size and athleticism to take over in games. He is averaging 18.8 points and 12.2 rebounds a game, and with him on the floor, Denver Jewish Day always has a chance.
Logan Owen Logan Owen 6'4" | CG Belleview Christian | 2021 State CO – Belleview Christian
Owen is the most recent player to score 1,000 points in their career, and looking from the big picture, he has been one of the best players in all of 1A in the past four seasons. Owen’s game has elevated as his teammates have gotten better, and with that, he has been able to re-brand himself. Owen went from the only scoring option that had to have the ball in his hands for his team to have a chance to being the perfect side-kick that is capable of taking over when needed. He is still a consistent bucket-getter that is a natural scorer with size. He backs players down, finishes nicely in transition, and has shown that his game can translate. He is averaging a team-high 20 points a game with 8.0 boards to go along with it. As long as he is playing well for the Bruins, they have a chance to win it all.
