The players went thru a light workout session prior to playing two games each which was followed by an All-Star game to conclude the day.
Guard Rodmik Allen out of Wilmington was the best overall player in the building from start to finish, taking home the Camp MVP award following the All-Star game. Allen has a game that is very advanced for his age, he plays at different paces, and already understands how to balance his scoring with facilitating. During game one he went on a 8 point, 2 Assist run of his own in less than two minuets which helped his team get some separation to secure the win.
First Flight has been known for having players that can shoot the ball at a high level and Mason Dobie is next in line to show what he can do. Dobie took home the ” Best Shooter” award which didn’t come as much of a surprise due to how efficient he was from three point land. He does a nice job of setting his feet and getting his shot off pretty quickly but what really makes him difficult to defend is the fact that he can put the ball on the floor and get to the bucket as well.
The Best Defender Award went to Zeus Batts out of Wilmington, NC who is normally a player that we see score the ball at a pretty high level. His shot wasn’t falling as much as he would have liked it too but he found other ways to impact the game which included his defense. He moved his feet well, beating offensive players to their spots and understands how to use his strength to his benefit as well.
One of the best big men on the day was J’quarious Carr out of Goldsboro, currently standing at about 6’5 and having the ability play inside and out. He banged and bruised inside the paint with opposing big men but stepped outside and showcased his shooting ability throughout the day as well.
Rounding out our Top 5 is Guard Howard Herbet out of Trinity Christian in Fayetteville, a program that is known for consistently having prospects move on to the next level. Herbet has plenty of potential to be a special player , he plays bigger than what his height suggest, brings max energy and effort and is getting early experience playing varsity basketball as an 8th grader.
