The wind blows like crazy over in those parts and there is not a whole lot to do other than play and/or watch basketball. Perhaps that is why there is such great basketball being played on the east side of the state. As the district tournament seeds are being settled and teams are attempting to plan their road to the state tournament, many players and teams have stepped up their games in order to make a statement at the end of their season. Pocatello vs. Blackfoot: In a classic barn-burner, Pocatello was able to sneak away with a victory over Blackfoot in the closing seconds. The game was close the entire way and it came down to a defensive stop on the final play that turned into a transition bucket to finally give Pocatello the lead for good. In an instant classic, both schools played extremely well and this game could become a tough rivalry in the coming seasons. Pocatello was led by freshman Julian Bowie scoring 20 points, including 14 of those points in the fourth quarter. Blackfoot looked to Ja’Vonte King Ja’Vonte King 6'3" | SF Blackfoot | 2023 State ID for the majority of their scoring but could not secure the win.
Thunder Ridge vs. Rigby: Thunder Ridge secured the top seed in their district tournament with a commanding win over Rigby. The Thunder Ridge offense was running at full speed in this game where they scored 20 points in all but one quarter. Alongside their offensive firepower, Thunder Ridge also did a great job of controlling Rigby on defense and they took away all of Rigby’s greatest threats. While Rigby attempted to match the offensive output of Thunder Ridge, they simply did not have enough offensive weapons and couldn’t contain them on defense. Rigby was led by Karson Barber scoring 16 points. Thunder Ridge got a big offensive boost from Lloyer Driggs scoring 31 points.
