Garrett Athon Garrett Athon 6'4" | C Jefferson West | 2021 State KS , Jefferson West:
The 6-3 big man hasn’t stopped fighting, as evidenced by the 20 points he put up in the most recent game against Holton. The Tigers had a rough patch in the middle of the season, but there might still be some good basketball left in this veteran team. They have size and experience. In Athon, they can almost always count on 15 or more points and 5 or more rebounds. A powerful presence in the paint, Athon has shown some ability form the perimeter this year as well.
Jeremiah Duncan, Blue Valley-Randolph:
After going 15-7 last season, the Rams knew there would be some rebuilding. The lone senior on the Rams roster, Duncan has had to provide leadership and production. The 6-foot-4 center has really stepped up, with 20-plus points in several games in the second half of the season.
Tyler Lohmeyer, Wabaunsee:
Wabaunsee has a lot of young talent, but it really struggled this year due to health and inexperience. The 6-foot-3 Lohmeyer is a versatile big who has missed several games, but is productive when he’s on the floor. He racked up 16 points against Rock Creek and 13 in a recent win over Herington.
Dylan Thompson, Jackson Heights:
Thompson was a building block for the Cobras after averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds as a junior. The Cobras play a low-scoring style, so Thompson didn’t always score a lot of points, but the 6-foot-4 forward was always a threat. He got hot a couple of weeks ago with 21 against St. Mary’s Academy, 20 against Horton and 21 against Oskaloosa. Jackson Heights might make some noise come post-season as they have really won a lot of games after a rough start.
Dawson Wyre, Silver Lake:
Silver Lake needed help after a dreadful 2-19 season a year ago. Wyre had played a smaller role as a junior, but the 6-4 forward/center stepped up in a big way. He hits the board and works hard in the lane. He isn’t the Eagles’ top offensive option, but he still comes up with some double-digit nights, like the 17 he produced against a tough Riley County team. He had 15 against Rock Creek.
