Through its first nine games of this season however, Prep has turned the corner, sitting at 6-3 with impressive wins over Archbishop Ryan and Cardinal O’Hara.
The Tide’s 65-61 win over the Raiders on Feb 15 signaled new beginnings for Devon Prep, and it all led back to impact freshman guard Ty Mishock Ty Mishock 5'10" | PG Spring Ford | 2024 PA .
Standing at just 5-8, Mishock put up 15 points in the upset victory over Archbishop Ryan and has put up double-figure scoring averages already through his first nine high school games.
He’s following closely in the footsteps of Roman Catholic’s Xzayvier Brown, who was one of the highest-impact freshmen during the 2019-20 season.
Mishock has helped spark an offensive renaissance within the program as through nine games, the Tide have scored 60 or more points three times, one more than all of last season, and have scored 50 or more points in eight games, tying last season.
Devon Prep is averaging 58.8 PPG this season and 61.2 PPG in their six wins, allowing 55.2 PPG to opponents overall and just 47.8 PPG in wins.
That’s a +13.4 point differential in wins this season, far and away their best point differential since joining the Philadelphia Catholic League for the 2018-19 season.
In just one season, the Tide have reversed the fortunes of its two prior to start out life in the PCL and have now emerged as a player in the league for years to come, hopefully.
Having impact freshmen like Mishock who immediately come in and are difference-makers change the entire equation. This season isn’t a fluke by any stretch of the imagination.
Devon Prep has finally emerged in the PCL, and Prep Hoops will be here to cover their future successes, as well as programs across the Keystone State, so stay tuned for more analysis, recaps and fantastic content.
