The event which featured over 17 total teams offered an opportunity for players to get long overdue exposure. The event was broken up into two days, Saturday was more grassroots focused, while Sunday was for the H.S programs. In this article, we take a look at some of the players that stood out on Saturday.
Pharoah Compton 6’5 PF Loyalty VP 2024 – I saw Compton in a workout a few weeks ago and was very impressed. He was better today. It felt like he grabbed every available rebound. The lefty played with a ferocity that was difficult to match. He used his quick 2nd jump ability not only to grab boards, but to also score around the rim. He is definitely a player that helped his stock rise.
Jalen Foy Jalen Foy 6'5" | SF Canyon Springs | 2022 State NV 6’5 SF Hard 2 Guard 2022 (#19PHN 2022) – It’s going to be an interesting summer for Foy. When he’s shooting the ball like he did today, he becomes an intriguing prospect. He showed not only a strap, but also some quickness and playmaking ability when driving to the hole.
Phoenix Wortham Phoenix Wortham 6'1" | SG Green Valley | 2022 State NV 6’1 SG LV Shooters 2022 (#60PHN 2022) – Wortham displayed his signature skill. “He wants to shoot it” You heard that from all over the court today, and for good reason. Wortham was dangerous in catch and shoot but was also effective when he could dribble into his shot. He made them from distance and was one of the top shooters on the day.
Michael Klekas Michael Klekas 6'3" | SF Elko | 2022 State NV 6’3 SF Elko 2022 (#9PHN 2022) – Klekas showed up and delivered. It’s time to start talking about him as perhaps the biggest sleeper on the West Coast. He’s not the fastest or most athletic player, all he knows how to do is play winning basketball. He made leaners, runners, 3 pointers, and everything in between. It only took 1 game for him to show why he is one of the top players in the state.
Chris White Chris White 5'10" | PG Valley | 2022 NV 5’11 PG LV Shooters 2022 – White is quicker than a hiccup. The PG used blow-by ability combined with some timely hesitations to consistently get into the lane on the day. When opponents backed off he showed he could hit the 3. The California transplant did it on both sides of the ball, playing terrific, lockdown on-ball defense.
Jacques Williams Jr Jacques Williams Jr 5'9" | PG Arbor View | 2022 NV 5’11 PG Hard 2 Guard 2022 (#37PHN 2022) (featured image) – Williams is one of those players that you root for. He is typically known as a glue guy, but today he held the team together with buckets. As one person at the table mentioned, “That kid sure does make a lot of floaters” As per usual he played terrific on-ball defense, but when you combine that with his shot-making ability in the lane, it was easy to see why he was one of the top players on the day.
