This month’s Cedar City Showcase takes place Saturday and Sunday, February 20th and 21st in Cedar City Utah. The event features 16 club teams from around the state of Nevada and offers a fabulous opportunity for the players to gain exposure. Every player participating in this event will be evaluated for the upcoming PrepHoops Rankings. In this article, a follow-up to our young guns article, we take a look at some of the young players ready to make a name for themselves at the event.
Chris Nwuli 6’6 SF LV Loyalty 2025 – While much of our 8th-grade content can be found on our Prephoopsnext site. When one of the top ones in the country shows up to play in your event, he’s going to get some ink. Nwuli is a super long athletic wing. In transition, he’s a problem, but he is also skilled enough to create plays for teammates in the half-court. Really admire him taking on the challenge of playing against older stronger opponents.
Anthony Nwuli Anthony Nwuli 6'5" | PF Durango | 2024 UT 6’6 PF LV Loyalty 2024 (#11PHN 2024) – The older Nwuli brother brings the beef. Anthony has a powerful frame allowing him to easily dislodge his opponents for rebounding and post position. I like the fact that he understands who he is and consistently plays with a high motor, just looking to see gradual development from him this weekend
Zarshon Cousins 5’10 SF DIG 2024 (#29PHN 2024) – I haven’t had a chance to see Cousins in game action since his middle school days. I’m excited to see how he’s developed. Like many of the players on DIG, he is long, athletic, and young. So many questions I want to have answered, how does he score in half-court sets, what type of offensive and defensive IQ does he have, etc. This weekend will present a perfect opportunity to get them answered.
Elijah Burney Elijah Burney 6'1" | PG Centennial | 2023 State NV , 5’10 PG LVXF 2023 (#28PHN 2023) (featured image) – Last time I saw Burney was this summer and he played well. The PG has terrific scoring and shooting ability. It’s an eye test for me. I’m looking to see how he’s grown in length and size, plus what skills he’s improved. With his shooting, if he has added blow-by ability, he’s clearly a candidate that has a chance to rise in the rankings from this event.
Pharoh Compton 6’5 SF LV Loyalty/Chosen Few 2024 – Compton instantly makes the all airport team and passes the eye test, now I want to see him play. The lefty has an advanced frame and shot the ball lights out when I watched him workout a few weeks ago. If he brings the same type of shooting touch and athleticism to this event, then we have a nice new addition to an already loaded class of 2024.
