This month’s Cedar City Showcase takes place Saturday and Sunday, February 20th and 21st in Cedar City Utah. The event features 16 club teams from around the state of Nevada and offers a fabulous opportunity for the players to gain exposure. Every player participating in this event will be evaluated for the upcoming PrepHoops Rankings. In this article, a follow-up to our players to watch, we take a look at some of the key players to watch this weekend.
Chris Yoo 6’3 SG Redcats 2021 – Yoo was slated to attend Gorman this year. While that’s intriguing, I’m more intrigued by his sophomore season at Calvary. He was a productive player on a good team, it will be exciting to see him in action for a Redcats team comprised of several small school stars.
LJ Mercurius LJ Mercurius 6'3" | SF Faith Lutheran | 2023 State NV 6’3 SF Redcats 2023 (#37PHN 2023) – Mercurius is expected to be one of the best athletes at the event. He contributed a bit during his freshmen season at Meadows and has the physical tools to be an impactful player. He’s a versatile athlete that plays multiple sports, I’m intrigued to see how much his basketball skill has caught up to his athleticism.
Christian Martin Christian Martin 6'2" | SG Sierra Vista | 2022 State NV 6’2 SG Blue Hoops 2022 (#57PHN 2022) – Martin’s potential intrigues me. At times he reminds you of a silky smooth scorer with his ability to get to the bucket and finish. He played ok in the first CCS. Now I’m looking for consistency from him.
Sean Klekas Sean Klekas 6'0" | PG Elko | 2021 State NV 6’0 PG Elko 2021 (#97PHN 2021) – It’s pretty easy for me. Klekas is ranked #97 in our rankings, I’ve watched him play well against good competition over the last few months. Standout players don’t just fit in and Elko should be one of the stronger teams in this event. If Klekas plays well while contributing to some wins for his club, then he is a sure bet to be one of the top stockrisers when the rankings come out.
Naurese Meno Naurese Meno 6'2" | SG Losee | 2021 State NV 6’3 SG OTTG 2021 (#77PHN 2021) – Meno is known as a shooter, but what’s impressed me the last few times I’ve seen him play is his toughness. The 6’2 sniper is unafraid to stick his nose in and compete for rebounds and loose balls. OTTG has a tough matchup against H2G, Meno’s toughness will go a long way in determining the outcome of the game.
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV 6’1 PG Hard 2 Guard (#4PHN 2022) (featured image) – How could I forget Jackson? In an event loaded with stars, he is one of the brightest. The PG makes it look effortless at times. For him this event isn’t so much about solidifying his state rankings, as it is an opportunity to rise in our national ones.
