Made 3-pointers – Bottineau 12 Dunseith 12
These two teams shot amazingly well tonight. 24 made three-pointers in a game does not happen very often. The Dragons were electric in transition and moved the ball with perfection. The Braves played well on offense tonight and had some stellar individual performances. However, the firepower of the Dragons was too much tonight. Watch out for Dunseith down the stretch, they will be a scary team to play in the tournament!
Here are the top players from tonight’s game:
1. Ethan Morin Ethan Morin 6'2" | SG Dunseith | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-0 G| Dunseith – 23 points, 3 three-pointers, and 2-2 from the line. He is a strong player with a mature looking shot. Ethan is a pickpocket on defense. He had multiple transition baskets tonight. He can attack and finish with both hands at the rim. He had an impressive left-handed drive and pull-up jumper that looked like a college player. I like his aggressiveness on the O-boards. Ethan is a skilled basketball player who can score at all levels.
2. Joshua DeCoteau (2021) |6-6 F| Dunseith – 24 points and 2 triples. The big man for the Dragons dominated in the paint tonight. He is a strong player that can finish softly around the basket. Josh alters shots on defense and protects the rim. He has great hands and is an alert passer. I thought he moved great without the ball. Josh had a nice offensive rebound tip-in basket tonight.
3. Milan Davis (2021) |5-10 G| Bottineau – 18 points and 4-5 from the charity stripe. He has a great flow to his game and moves well. Milan has an excellent shot fake. His finger-roll finishes are a thing of beauty. He is an opportunistic cutter. Milan was fouled on a 3-pointer and he went to the line and made all three FT’s. He had great feet and fluid shooting form. Davis has as close to a perfect looking jumper as you can get. He was relentless on offense tonight and was always attacking.
4. Jalen Poitra Jalen Poitra 6'2" | SG Dunseith | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-2 G| Dunseith – 20 points, two 3’s, and 2-3 from the line. He grabbed multiple O-boards tonight and had a tip-in basket. Jalen had multiple steals with his quick hands. His three-pointers came from the top of the key in the 2nd quarter and from the right-wing in the 3rd. Jalen has a relaxed shot with a thorough follow-through. He sees the floor well and dropped some dimes tonight. Jalen showed an impressive step-back jumper tonight as well.
5. Caleb Poitra Caleb Poitra 6'1" | SF Dunseith | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-1 G| Dunseith – 16 points and two triples. He is an unselfish passer who makes his teammates better. I liked his physical finishes at the rim. Caleb had multiple baskets in transition tonight. He has extraordinary handles and possesses a fine step-back move. Caleb has an accurate shot from outside that he gets off with little effort. I was impressed with how crafty of a finisher he is around the rim.
6. Jaden McCloud (2021) |6-0 G| Bottineau – 19 points, 3 three-pointers, and 4-6 from the line. He is a high-level shooter who shoots it with a high release and great balance. Jaden has a quick release and does not need much room to get his shot off. He had a nice shot-fake on the perimeter and let the defender fly by him, and then he drained the triple. Jaden is a deadly shooter from the corner in 3-point land.
7. Carson Haerer (2024) |5-9 G| Bottineau – 15 points, 3 triples, and 2-2 from the FT line. The young freshman plays with great energy and hustle. He snagged O-boards tonight because of his effort. Carson had an impressive reverse layup with the defense draped all over him. That finish showed great concentration and balance.
8. Taylen Strand (2021) |5-9 G| Bottineau – 12 points and all of them from 3-point land. He has a smooth step-back that gives him space for the shot. I like how he shared the ball and did not force anything. Taylen is a fast player going up and down the court. He hit from downtown on the wing and in the corner.
9. Julius Grant (2021) |6-0 F| Dunseith – 8 points, 2 triples, and 2-2 from the line. He is lethal from the top of the arc. Julius catches it well and shoots it with precision.
