Continue ReadingClass B had a wild area weekend. #3, #6, #7 and #8 all lost and didn’t make it to state. There were many upsets, but the top teams prevailed. Varnum and Roff have been at the top of the rankings since the beginning of the season and they took care of business. Class B will be a very competitive state tournament.
Who Made State:
#1 Varnum Whippets
#2 Roff Tigers
#4 Lomega Raiders
#5 Red Oak Eagles
#9 Cyril Pirates
#14 Tyrone Bobcats
#20 Forgan Bulldogs
Mt. View-Gotebo Tigers
How They Got There:
Varnum and Roff have been rolling all season. They are a combined 48-4 on the season and they both rolled through the post season so far. Lomega and Red Oak have consistently been in the top five all season, though Red Oak dropped a regional game. Lomega is 17-1 in class play this season. Cyril had a great tournament run with their only loss coming to Varnum. To advance to state, Cyril won their consolation game by 22 points. Tyrone was a team I was very high on to begin the season. While it took them a while to figure it out, they chose a good time to get hot. The Bobcats won the consolation game to make it eight wins in their last nine games. Forgan and Mt. View-Gotebo have both been big surprises. Maybe they were just severely underrated, though. Forgan comes in at 22-4 with the postseason’s best win against #3 Duke. Mt. View-Gotebo is headed to state after beating #10 Earlsboro two times in a row.

Predictions:
So far in Class B, we’ve seen how good the teams at the top are. Not discrediting the runs that some of these teams have gone on, but the top five teams of Class B have proven they can win any game. I think Tyrone has the best chance out of the underdogs to pull out a win in the first round. They have height and a star player to rally behind and are finally figuring out their potential. It’s a boring prediction, but the top four seeds in this bracket are too good. I expect some incredible state tournament games out of Class B.
