It is my joy and pleasure to write about the best sport in the world while I also get to reminisce on my own playing days (especially beating Madison in the opening round of the state tournament in 2017. I have never seen so many disappointed fans all wearing red.). The season is dwindling and many teams are looking forward to their senior nights and the hope of playing further into the postseason. Continue reading for a look at some recent games from the state as well as some great individual performances.
Homedale vs. Parma: In an overtime thriller, Homedale took home a one-point victory in an excellent game. Both teams produced stellar performances and the defensive end was particularly impressive on both ends. Neither Homedale nor Parma were willing to give even an inch and the entire game was a dogfight all the way down to the bitter end. Homedale and Parma are both fighting for positions in their conference tournament and their desire to advance to the postseason was easy to see during this entire game. For Homedale, Jaxon Dines Jaxon Dines 5'10" | PG Homedale | 2023 State ID produced an impressive stat line of 23 points and 7 rebounds. On the other side of the ball, Parma was led by an even more impressive 27 point and 7 rebound performance from Jose Angel Barba.
Melba vs. Marsing: In another small town matchup, Melba put the hurt on Marsing as they cruised to victory with ease. Melba presented an excellent defensive display as they held Marsing to only 38 points and rarely allowed them to score throughout the duration of the game. Melba, on the other hand, put together a great offensive game and they shared the ball well as they gave Marsing a balanced attack. Melba made a case for wreaking havoc on the district tournament and they looked great heading into postseason play. Melba was led by 20 points from Braden Volkers and 14 points from Joe Reiber Joe Reiber 6'2" | SG Melba | 2022 State ID . Marsing attempted to claw their way to victory thanks to a double-double from Jacob Ankeny Jacob Ankeny 6'8" | C Marsing | 2021 State ID with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
