The event which featured over 17 total teams offered an opportunity for players to get long overdue exposure. The event was broken up into two days, Saturday was more grassroots-focused, while Sunday was for the H.S programs. With the new PrepHoops Rankings set to be released, the showcase provided a platform for a huge pool of players.
Here are our takeaways from the event.
- Khaman Maker Khaman Maker 7'1" | C Trinity | 2024 State #127 Nation NV is a Pro – I know it sounds bizarre to say right now, but I don’t think I’m going out on a limb. If he stays healthy and can develop at a consistent rate, he will be paid to play professional basketball somewhere. It’s not just that he provides obvious rim protection, but he genuinely looks like he’s enjoying it. Maker blocked every shot that was even thought about being taken around him on Saturday. While you can question the lack of size he faced, I’ve also witnessed him do this same thing to other big men. Let’s revisit this in a year.
- LVXF stole the show – LVXF was a last-minute entry into the event and had to scramble to fill roster spots. Despite missing two of their original players, they went 3-0 on the day, using a blistering full-court press. Craig Comanche Craig Comanche 6'1" | CG Cheyenne | 2021 State NV , got in the passing lanes, creating steals and turnovers. Xakime Milton Xakime Milton 5'8" | PG Centennial | 2021 State NV used his speed and recent Grind Session experience to blow by opponents on the offensive end. When those two weren’t doing damage. 5’10 c/o 2021 SG Jaquez Charles was causing havoc playing downhill in transition. Overall impressive day for the club.
- Cameron Kimble Cameron Kimble 6'4" | SG Clark | 2021 State NV is a division one player – I’m fine putting my name on this one. If given an opportunity, Kimble is going to make some program very happy. He played with a hunger and passion today that I hadn’t quite seen before. What’s impressive about him is that he also maintained the things about him that I have. He created for himself off the bounce, used his length to harass opposing ballhandlers, and was the best help defender on the day. Throw in the fact that he’s also a 4.0 student and I just don’t see any way this kid doesn’t succeed.
- Small School Stars – I love seeing guys that play in smaller divisions take on the big boys. CCS2 offered that, as 3A runner-up Elko, and the Redcats, a team consisting of players from 2A and 3A schools competed on Sunday. Michael Klekas Michael Klekas 6'3" | SF Elko | 2022 State NV was one of the top players at the event, showing a crafty ability to score and play make from a variety of levels. Ryan Hannig Ryan Hannig 5'10" | CG Lincoln Co | 2023 State NV impressed me with his sheer speed, and downhill ability. Lucas Walker Lucas Walker 5'11" | 155 lbs | PG Moapa Valley | 2021 State NV , is in the running for best passer in the state. Isaiah Dahl Isaiah Dahl 6'4" | SG Elko | 2022 State NV is a good-looking 6’3 Junior prospect who shot the ball well.
- Fabulous Freshmen – Alijah Adem Alijah Adem 6'2" | PG Spring Valley | 2024 State #174 Nation NV looked like a vet out there. The PG showed some wiggle and the ability to shoot it off the bounce. Zarshon Cousin Zarshon Cousin 6'1" | SF Mojave | 2024 State NV was good on the defensive end causing havoc in DIG’s press defense. Immanuel Reed showed good quickness and defense, taking advantage of the event to get his name on the ranking’s radar.
