Dajuan Wagner Jr Dajuan Wagner Jr 6'4" | PG Camden | 2023 State #1 Nation NJ . has been playing like a potential Player of the Year candidate, while Simeon Wilcher Simeon Wilcher 6'4" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #17 Nation NJ has been running Roselle Catholic’s offense smoothly and effectively. Both players should find themselves on All-State teams, but they are not the only ones with the potential to make postseason teams. Here are the 2023 prospects who could sneak onto a postseason team this year.
Akil Watson Akil Watson 6'7" | SF Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #105 Nation NJ , 6’7 SF Don Bosco Prep
It may count as cheating to list Watson here, but he is the go-to guy for a young, talented Ironmen squad. The 6’7 forward has a smooth handle on the perimeter and is a good finisher around the rim. Watson has a nice release on his jumper and is capable of getting hot from distance. He is a good rebounder and is an underrated shot-blocker. Watson is a talented wing prospect who has a chance to make the All-State team if Don Bosco keeps winning.
Isaac Hester Isaac Hester 6'0" | PG Ranney School | 2023 State NJ , 6’0 PG Ranney
The Panthers are off to a 7-0 start and Hester is a big reason why. The Gill St. Bernard’s transfer has a tight handle and is a crafty finisher around the basket. Hester has a good shooting form and does not force the issue in the half court. He is a good rebounder for a guard his size and knows how to move his feet on the defensive end. Ranney is currently ranked 10th in the state, putting Hester in prime position to make an All-State team.
Jalen Robinson Jalen Robinson 5'10" | PG Columbia | 2023 State NJ , 5’10 PG Columbia
The Cougars have been one of the top teams in Essex County this season with Robinson steering the ship. The 5’10 lead guard plays with poise and does not seem to get rattled under pressure. Robinson is a play-maker when he gets into the lane as he will either dish to an open teammate or finish around the rim. He is an active defender as well as he average over two steals a game. Robinson has a tough matchup against Montclair Immaculate coming up, but he is ready to prove his worth against the top guards in Essex County.
Chris Ross Chris Ross 5'9" | PG Wallkill Valley | 2023 State NJ , 5’9 PG Wallkill Valley
The Rangers have been solid all season as Ross has taken control as the go-to guy. The athletic lefty can finish in a variety of ways around the basket and does not mind contact. Ross is more than just a slasher as he has buried seven triples in his last two games. He is an underrated passer and is a pesky on-ball defender. Ross has eclipsed the 20-point mark twice this season and another game like that could earn him a spot on the All-Group team.
Davontay Hutson, 6’2 SG/SF Trenton
The Tornadoes have had a bounce back year and Hutson’s all-around play is a big reason why. The 6’2 wing can get to the basket from the perimeter and has a nice touch around the basket. Hutson can also score in the mid-range and has the ability to knock down jumpers from behind the arc. He fights for rebounds on both ends of the floor and is a play-maker on the defensive end. Hutson’s play for Trenton this season has been solid and worthy of recognition on an All-Group team.
