Beyond that, the Gem State is also a premier location for untapped basketball potential and needs to receive more recognition for the talent that so often flows from this great state. Perhaps I am biased due to my birth certificate and general love and affection for this place that I call home, but I do know for a fact that excellent basketball can be found in big and small schools alike anywhere within Idaho’s state lines. As I have been gifted a platform to write about the beauty of Idaho basketball, I feel that I must do it no disservice by showing you how truly great the quality of basketball is in this state. Continue reading for a look at a handful of recent games from across Idaho.
St. Maries vs. Kellogg: A masterful defensive performance by St. Maries allowed them to cruise to victory over Kellogg in a northern Idaho clash. Kellogg only scored double digits in one quarter as St. Maries applied full-court pressure for the majority of the game and made it very difficult for Kellogg to score throughout the game. On the offensive side, St. Maries was able to make a lot of great offensive adjustments and played an efficient and well-balanced game on their way to victory. For Kellogg, once they were able to break the press and play half-court basketball, they were able to find some success, but their efforts were too little, too late as they dropped this contest. St. Maries was led by Greyson Sands had 18 points and Coleman Ross Coleman Ross 6'2" | SG St. Maries | 2022 State ID added 10 points. For Kellogg, Kolby Luna had 11 points and K.J. Walker had 10 points to round out all double-digit scorers.
Timberlake vs. North Idaho Christian: Timberlake was able to use an excellent team approach to defeat North Idaho Christian in a close contest. North Idaho Christian battled hard but did not have a balanced attack and ultimately were beaten by team basketball. Timberlake will look to use this win to produce some momentum as they head into their next couple of games as North Idaho will look to regroup. Timberlake was led by Zach Yetter Zach Yetter 5'9" | PG Timberlake | 2022 State ID scoring 18 points and Hunter Higgins had 12 points. North Idaho Christian was led by 7’ center, Malachi Bullington Malachi Bullington 7'0" | C North Idaho Christian | 2022 State ID who had 22 points, but no other scorers in double-figures.
