Norfolk
Kallan Herman Kallan Herman 6'3" | CG Norfolk | 2021 State NE n
The Norfolk point guard has played very well for the Panthers this season. Averaging just over 26 points and almost 5 rebounds per game, he is playing and leading like the senior he is. He is confident in his game. He knows when and where he can get his shot off, and he knows how to go about creating one. His crossover dribble gets players reaching almost every time because of his proficiency with the ball and his compact, efficient footwork. He plays physically, and loves to give his defenders a little shoulder bump in the midrange to create space for his stepback jumper. He flies through the lane, under control, welcoming contact with his defenders. When Hermann gets into their body, it’s so difficult to get a strong contest on him.
Lincoln High
Livon Ramsey Livon Ramsey 6'4" | SF Lincoln High | 2021 State NE
With solid athleticism and his ability to vary pace makes Livon Ramsey Livon Ramsey 6'4" | SF Lincoln High | 2021 State NE exhausting to stay in front of when the ball is in his hands. His touch around the rim is not great, so sometimes his body gets him to the basket, he can’t always finish with a score. He shows flashes of effort on the glass, and when he does, it’s clear he could be an elite rebounder. Ramsey fails to get into an athletic stance while guarding the ball and can get blown by. I was a bit shocked to see someone with his athleticism struggle to defend lower-level guards, but his off-ball defense was promising. A few of his rotations from the weakside block were perfectly-timed, and his athleticism erased the easy look for the offensive player.
Andrew Gaines
This was the first good look I’ve had at the sophomore, and he struck me as the opposite of Ramsey in a lot of ways. Andrew Gaines does not have the bounce and speed of his teammate, but he is always in an athletic position ready to make a play wherever it might present itself. His ability to navigate ball screens and stay glued to the hip of his man is hard to come by at his age. He has a knack for tracking down rebounds, and he almost always makes some effort to get himself in position for the board. Because he does not have great speed, he will need to develop his ball-handling and footwork to shed his man without a ball screen.
Papillion La Vista South
Daniel Brocaille Daniel Brocaille 6'4" | SF Papio South | 2022 State NE
The tone for the Titans was set from the opening tip by Daniel Brocaille Daniel Brocaille 6'4" | SF Papio South | 2022 State NE . The junior picked off three swing passes to the wing for transition opportunities that resulted in layups or free throws. Gretna made sure not to float their swing passes anymore against this opponent, but Brocaille remained aggressive. He attacked the basket nearly everytime he saw a gap, and he was physical in the paint. He must weigh over 200 pounds, but he remains quick and agile. His 24 points on Saturday were a game-high, yet it hardly seemed that much because none of it was forced or ill-advised.
