The first thing that stood out about Petersen in the Panthers win over Camanche was that he looks like a much more confident ball-handler than as a freshman. Against the Indians last year, he looked hesitant against the full-court pressure that Camanche likes to throw at opposing ball-handlers, but that wasn’t an issue in this game. A supremely confident shooter, he knocked down five of his seven attempts from the arc, en route to a game-high 17 points. He’s a knockdown shooter when given a bit of space, and he has good footwork that he uses to create that tiny bit of space that he needs to get his shot off. He finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists for the Panthers.
Ty Kehoe Ty Kehoe 6'0" | PG Monticello | 2021 State IA , Monticello (2021)
Kehoe isn’t much of an offensive threat, but he does all the little things that coaches love. He’s a very good defender both on and off the ball, moving his feet well laterally and using his length to create some issues. He’s a good passer who keeps the ball moving and a capable ball-handler. He had just 2 points, but contributed across the board, finishing with 5 rebounds and 4 steals as well. He’s willing to get on the floor, defend the opposing team’s best player and he knows his limitations. He’ll be a very good Division III player if he wants to go that route.
Garrett Baumhover Garrett Baumhover 6'0" | PG Western Dubuque | 2021 State IA , Western Dubuque (2021)
Baumhover was absolutely sensational in the Bobcats win over Kennedy last week, going off for 30 points on 10-12 shooting (8-9 from 3) with 10 assists and 4 steals. He moves well off the ball and has a smooth, quick release on the catch. He has great form on his jumper, keeping his elbow in and snapping his follow through. He’s a solid on-ball defender who sits in his stance and moves his feet, and he’s a great passer who sees the floor very well. The story in this game was his shooting, going 8-9 from behind the arc and showing the ability to shoot off the dribble or the catch.
Nick Bryant Nick Bryant 5'9" | PG Western Dubuque | 2022 State IA , Western Dubuque (2022)
The junior lead guard is an efficient shooter who does everything well. He’s a good ball-handler and passer, a solid defender both on-and-off the ball, and he showed a great looking stroke from behind the arc. He finished with 10 points (3-5 3P), 4 assists and a steal (with no turnovers).
Kobe Risse Kobe Risse 6'0" | PG Wapsie Valley | 2021 State IA , Wapsie Valley (2021)
Risse is a four-year starter for the Warriors and does all the little things well. He’s a winner who makes winning plays and finds ways to impact the game on nearly every possession. He finished with 11 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds in the Warriors win over Jesup, showing a smooth jumper from 3, excellent court vision and decision making, and he’s a confident ball-handler. He does a good job playing with pace and changing speeds to get by defenders.
Jack Miller, Jesup (2024)
A 5-8 freshman guard, Miller didn’t have an eye-popping game against Wapsie Valley, but he did catch my eye. He has a nice pull-up jumper, elevating quickly into his shot off the dribble. He makes hard, crisp passes and sees the floor well, and he carries himself as an upperclassman would. He’s poised and confident, and will be a name to monitor moving forward.
