Week 6 Rankings Update
In this article:
It was a crazy first week (plus last Saturday) back from the holiday break, with 21 of the 40 ranked teams last year suffering at least one loss. That led to a lot of shakeup in the rankings across all four classes. We detail some of the key movement below.
In Class 1A, North Linn (10-0) holds strong at #1 following their win over #3 Springville. The Lynx have now won 102 consecutive regular-season games, and 104 straight games against Tri-Rivers competition. Despite the loss, Springville (11-1) held strong at #3, sandwiching #2 Wapsie Valley (6-2), who also suffered a defeat last week, but stay at #2 on the strength of a dominant win over then-2A #2 Denver. Keota (10-0) enters the rankings this week at #10.
Top-ranked Boyden-Hull (9-0) is the only school that remains in the same place in Class 2A. The Comets are winning games by an average of 22 points a game so far, but they’ll get tested on Tuesday by a really good Unity Christian squad. Dike-New Hartford (8-1), Denver (9-1), Des Moines Christian (9-1) and Spirit Lake (10-0) round out the top five, while West Branch (9-0) and North Fayette Valley (9-0) enter at #8 and #9, respectively.
No team in 3A stayed in the same spot as last week, as Carroll (9-0) moves up to #1 following Dallas Center-Grimes’ loss to Pella. The Mustangs fell to #4 while the Dutch moved up to #2. A big week-plus from Assumption (8-1) has seen the Knights jump from #7 to #3. They recorded wins over Hempstead and Davenport North (along with Central and West). Glenwood (8-1) enters at #10.
Following a surprising loss by Waukee, Cear Falls (6-0) moves up to #1 in Class 4A. The Warriors drop just one spot to #2, as they were playing without star Tucker DeVries Tucker DeVries 6'7" | SF Waukee | 2021 State #123 Nation IA in their loss to Johnston, as he missed the game due to Covid-19 contact tracing.
