The Flower Mound Marcus Marauders earned a 51-49 victory over the Plano Wildcats on Tuesday, the Dallas Jesuit Rangers went on the road and got a 58-48 win over the J.J. Pearce Mustangs on Friday, and the iSchool of Lewisville Cougars hosted and defeated the Spring Creek Academy Spartans 61-57 on Saturday.
Here are seven standout guard prospects from this past week’s action:
Geronimo De La Rosa | 2021 | 6’2’’ Point Guard | Spring Creek Academy – De La Rosa was incredibly efficient vs. the Cougars. He hit shots from all three levels, displaying versatility as a scorer and excellent shot selection. The SCA senior made all three of his three-point attempts, while also converting some tough finishes after penetrating the defense off the dribble. He ended the afternoon with 15 points and two assists, shooting 55% from the field.
Cruz Davis Cruz Davis 6'3" | PG Huntington Prep | 2022 WV | 2022 | 6’3’’ Point Guard | iSchool of Lewisville – Davis was responsible for some gorgeous Euro step finishes when attacking the basket on Saturday. He possesses an extremely smooth style of play and is so good at staying under control and maneuvering around defenders on his way to the hoop. The junior guard showed that he can shoot from mid-range and behind the arc as well. Additionally, he did a good job of defending in transition, finishing with two steals and a block on top of his nine points.
Savion Miles | 2022 | 6’0’’ Combo Guard | Plano HS – Miles came off the bench and provided a huge spark for the Wildcats on Tuesday. The 2022 two-sport athlete is wired to score. He is great at playing without the ball and understands how to free himself up with his timely cuts and change of direction skills. His fearless mindset coupled with the intensity he plays with allowed him to get to basket with regularity, where he scored with layups and runners.
Christian Weddington Christian Weddington 6'5" | SF Perkiomen School | 2022 State PA | 2022 | 6’5’’ Shooting Guard | Flower Mound Marcus HS – Weddington operated as the sixth man for the Marauders vs. Plano. He immediately made an impact when he was inserted into the game. The Marcus junior is an explosive athlete who plays with physicality at both ends of the court. He recognizes size mismatches, posting up smaller defenders and finishing over them with ease. His ability to finish through contact is worth noting too, converting a pair of three-point plays on Tuesday.
Khalil Mahtani Khalil Mahtani 6'0" | PG J.J. Pearce | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’0’’ Point Guard | J.J. Pearce HS – Mahtani is a certified shot maker. He shoots the three ball well, burying a deep triple vs. Dallas Jesuit early in the contest. The 6-foot senior also did some damage from mid-range. He is great at creating his own shot and consistently makes heavily contested jumpers off the dribble. Beyond that, Mahtani is a good ball handler who plays fast but under control. He accounted for 11 points on Friday.
Jackson Hamilton | 2021 | 6’2’’ Shooting Guard | Plano HS – Hamilton does a little bit of everything for Plano. On Tuesday, he drilled a catch-and-shoot three, made timely passes to cutters, and defended well on the perimeter. In addition, the 2021 two-guard is a sneaky good offensive rebounder who is disciplined about following his shots. He ended the night with seven points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Ben Johnson | 2022 | 5’11’’ Shooting Guard | Dallas Jesuit – Johnson had a solid outing vs. Pearce. He has a quick release and is always ready to fire from deep, knocking down a pair of threes from the catch. At the other end, the junior guard is a gritty defender who plays hard whenever he is on the court. He is a great on-ball stopper who plays with a bit of an edge and does a good job of anticipating passes. He finished the evening with eight points and two steals.
