It’s been a long time coming for high school basketball in Kentucky. A season that was pushed back until January 4th is finally here. Everyone has been eagerly anticipating the start of the season. So now that basketball season has officially kicked off in Kentucky. I can get back to watching basketball at the high school level. Here is a breakdown of players on teams that I saw.
Central Kentucky Homeschool
Jayden Washington (2026) – Jayden is a star in the making. He starts at point guard for Central Kentucky Homeschool team. Washington is the younger brother of Christian Academy’s star point guard George Washington III George Washington III 6'3" | CG Chaminade Julienne | 2023 State #92 Nation OH . People won’t be saying that’s George Washington George Washington 6'0" | PG St. Michael's | 2020 KY ’s little brother. Jayden will make his own name. He displayed a high pick and roll IQ. He handles the ball very well and doesn’t get rattled by pressure. Washington is a true point guard. Look for him to be a big-time collegiate prospect in another year.
Josiah Morris (2021) – Josiah is about 6’6″ and plays the stretch four. Morris is strong and very skilled. He has a good basketball IQ. Josiah is a threat offensively. He can score on all three levels. He has a good handle. He uses his body well to create separation. Morris uses the step-back jumper well. He has a nice shot and can knock down jumpers from deep.
Shelby County
Austin Griffin Austin Griffin 5'11" | PG Shelby County | 2021 State KY (2021) – Austin is a player with a high IQ and fundamentals. He can play any position on the court. His IQ allows him to be very effective on defense as well as offense. Griffin shot-making ability from all three levels makes him a tough guard. He is extremely patient and uses his body well to gain position. I love his mid post-game at the high school level. It’s not something you see. Austin can handle and pass the ball with the best of them. He currently leads the team in scoring at 13.2ppg.
Tim Fuller II – (2023) – Timothy is in his first season at Shelby County after transferring from Great Crossing. At 6’5″ with shooting ability, he gives Shelby County the opportunity for mismatch issues on the offensive end. He can stretch the floor and make post players play out away from the basket as his true position is a wing. Timothy showed off good footwork around the rim. His long arms help him rebound the ball as he is currently averaging 7rpg. Known for being a shooter, he is displaying some playmaking ability with his passes. Fuller II is currently second on the team in scoring at 11.5ppg. Look for that to change as he continues to get comfortable in a new system.
Trenton Burchfield (2021) – Trenton is a big-time shooter. He has the ability to come off screens or off the dribble to make shots. Burchfield has a good handle and IQ of the game. He moves well without the ball. Trenton has a very quick release. He just doesn’t rely on the three-point shot. He can make mid-range shots and can get to the rim. Burchfield is averaging 10.5ppg.
