Jahnathan Lamothe Jahnathan Lamothe 6'3" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #204 Nation MD | 6’3 | St. Frances
Overall ranking: No. 4
Positional ranking: No. 1
Lamothe exploded this spring and summer throughout his play with Team Durant 15U. We had the chance to see him play more on the ball and sport a much improved body that made him more explosive and dynamic. The 6-foot-3 guard was a spot-up shooter as a freshman for St. Frances last season. While he still does most of his damage from deep for the Panthers, this summer was a boost to his confidence as a playmaker. It also helped his stock quite a bit. He boasts 12 offers in total from various high major conferences. Lamothe is a tremendous off-ball defender who always seems to cause deflections and transition opportunities for his team.
Mike Williams Mike Williams 6'3" | CG Bishop Walsh | 2023 State #141 Nation MD | 6’3 | Calvert Hall
Overall ranking: No. 6
Positional ranking: No. 2
Williams is one of the more explosive athletes in the 2023 MD/DC class. I had the chance to see him play in a fall league setting and he played on the ball as the initiator much more than was expected. Because of his athleticism, he’s a handful to contain in transition but he’s also grown as a mid-range shooter off the bounce. Williams is a dynamic defender who can guard either guard slot and even sometimes the wing position at the high school level. He anticipates in passing lanes and rebounds well for his position.
Jeannot Basima Jeannot Basima 6'3" | CG John Carroll | 2023 State #200 Nation MD | 6’4 | John Carroll
Overall ranking: No. 28
Positional ranking: No. 8
Basima took advantage of the Hoop Group Elite stage this summer where he won the MVP of the Future All-American NBA East All-Star Game. The 6-foot-4 guard is an effective slasher who is a difficult matchup to contain when he gets downhill. He works hard on the defensive end and can guard multiple positions at the high school level. He’s a decent rebounder for his position, but has a great motor when it comes to getting out in the lanes for fastbreaks. Going forward, Basima will have to continue to improve his pace on his drives, as sometimes he can get himself into a bind when out of control. One thing that’s for sure is the defender matched up against Basima will need to have lateral quickness or else it’ll be a long game.
Carlton Carrington Carlton Carrington 6'4" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #84 Nation MD | 6’2
Overall ranking: No. 33
Positional ranking: No. 10
Carrington has officially transferred out of McDonogh. Where he will end up is a wait and see type of thing. I caught Carrington in fall league action where I didn’t even recognize him because of the fact that he grew a legitimate four inches since his freshman year and now stands 6-foot-2. He’s a volume shooter that when in rhythm, can really fill it up from deep. He’s still developing an off the dribble game, but I expect that to come as he adjusts to his improved frame. His defense should also see an uptick with his growth. Opposing teams would take advantage of his lack of size last season and going forward, that may not be the case.
