One of the coolest things about the new Prep Hoops rankings is that it automatically ranks players by position, allowing you to see the rankings among PGs, CGs, SGs, SFs, PFs and Cs. However, new school guys like me who believe in relatively positionless basketball, as the game trends that way, believes that you can simplify the game to just three positions in guards, wings and bigs.
So, I took the time to breakdown the rankings into the three positions, and have ranked the top 25 in each position. Here’s a look at some of the top shooting guards and small forwards, looking at numbers 25-16 in the new rankings.
25) Piercen Young
PiercenYoung6'1" | SGVirginia Episcopal | 2022StateVA | 6’2” | Virginia Episcopal (#70 Overall)

Young is a very talented kid with a good resume as well, and the thing I like the best about him is he’s pretty much a utility guy that can do a little bit of everything on the court. He has a good feel and can make plays with the ball in his hands, he can shoot it and score from multiple levels and he competes on both

He has a good feel and can make plays with the ball in his hands, he can shoot it and score from multiple levels and he competes on both ends and rebounds well for his size too.

Travon GreyTravonGrey6'4" | SFPeninsula Catholic | 2022StateVA | 6’4” | Peninsula Catholic (#68 Overall)
Grey is a guy who things are starting to click for, and as he continues to improve he’ll be a guy to keep an eye on as his stock could shoot through the roof. He’s a big wing with a great frame and good strength already, he’s athletic and can rebound and play above the rim and he has some toughness to him as he’ll bring it against anyone, anywhere.
23)
Greg WilliamsGregWilliams6'4" | SFVA Academy | 2022StateVA | 6’4” | VA Academy (#67 Overall)
Williams is pretty similar to Grey in the fact that they’re both high motor, two way wings that make gritty and winning plays for their team. Williams doesn’t need a ton of plays ran for him as he can get out in transition or hit the offensive glass for easy buckets, he can guard multiple positions and he makes the hustle plays that coaches love.
22)
Garrett BrennanGarrettBrennan6'2" | SGSt. Stephen's St. Agnes | 2022StateVA | 6’2” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#63 Overall)
Brennan is a guy we may have too low as he has played on a very talented SSSAS team that made the state championship the last two years, winning it in 2019 when he was a freshman, and while he played crucial minutes for him last year he was still behind a senior ladened lineup that almost all went on to scholarship programs. With more opportunities awaiting him, expect him to show that he’s an all-around wing with a good understanding of the game, the ability to make sh

Chris BrownChrisBrown6'3" | SGPeninsula Catholic | 2022StateVA | 6’3” | Peninsula Catholic (#62 Overall)
Brown is a prospect who is on the verge of putting it all together and when he does he’s going to explode on the recruitment scene with scholarship level coaches. The 6’3” wing has good tools to be an off guard as he’s athletic and uses that as a help side defender and finisher in traffic, he can score it from multiple levels and makes tough shots in the midrange and he’s capable of making plays off the bounce as well.
20)
DeShawn GoodwynDeShawnGoodwyn6'2" | SGGeorge Wythe | 2022StateVA | 6’2” | George Wythe (#59 Overall)
Goodwyn is one of the top shooters in Richmond if not in the entire state of VA, and he isn’t shy about it as he takes as many shots from deep as anyone I have seen in a long time. While he’s trigger happy, it’s for a reason as Goodwyn is a guy who works endlessly off the basketball to get open, he can shoot it with ease from well beyond NBA range and once he gets it going he’s able to hit multiple in a row and take a game over easily.
19)
Georges ArcherGeorgesArcher6'4" | SFPrincess Anne | 2022StateVA | 6’4” | Princess Anne (#55 Overall)
Archer is a guy who is on the verge of a breakout season and will be a stock riser in the 757 in no time. He has good size at 6’4” and a great frame that should fill out nicely moving forward, he’s a very good athlete that has good burst and is explosive around the rim and he has a budding skill set offensively that includes the ability to put it on the deck and shoot it from deep.
18)
Jaeden FreemanJaedenFreeman6'4" | SFNansemond Suffolk | 2022StateVA | 6’4” | Nansemond-Suffolk (#54 Overall)
Freeman is a guy some have forgotten about as he’s dealt with some serious injuries over the past few years, but the 6’4” wing actually just surpassed his 1,000 point mark for his career and has looked very good so far this year. Freeman is the typical three-and-d guy as he is very disciplined defensively with good size and good athleticism, and he’s a deadly shooter off the catch from deep and can get hot very quickly.
17)
Nate PabisNatePabis6'3" | SFFlint Hill | 2022StateVA | 6’3” | Flint Hill (#46 Overall)
Pabis is one of the DMV’s most underrated recruits, and on a Flint Hill team that has regrouped with some very good talent and Pabis will be one of the leaders moving forward. He’s a big and strong wing that is a lights out shooter from behind the arc and has great form, he’s surprisingly athletic and mobile for his frame and he’s worked his tail off to improve his body and his frame over the past few years.
16)
Kendon PeeblesKendonPeebles6'4" | SFCatholic | 2022StateVA | 6’4” | Catholic (#40 Overall)
Peebles had a breakout year at Hampton Christian last year before deciding to transfer across the water to Catholic where he’s joining a young but talented group that will surprise a lot of people this year. He’s a guy who is chock full of potential as he has a great frame and is a big time athlete that plays above the rim, he’s a guy who brings it on both ends with a high motor and does the dirty work and he has a budding skill set that once he continues to polish he’ll be a very versatile guy on the basketball court.
