Christian Winborne Christian Winborne 6'2" | CG Gilman | 2022 State #199 Nation MD | 6’2 | Gilman
Overall ranking: No. 6
Positional ranking: No. 1
Winborne ranks as the top point guard in the MD/DC area and for good reason. At 6-foot-2 Winborne presents solid size and is built with a strong frame to take on contact on either end. He’s a scoring machine who can do so at all three levels and in a variety of ways. Winborne gets tremendous lift on his jumper that makes it difficult for longer defenders to contest. Where he separates himself is his IQ and ability to impact the box score in a handful of ways. This summer Winborne not only showed off his polished scoring prowess, but also made high major programs aware that he has a sound understanding when it comes to creating for others. He’s also a vicious competitor and an extremely coachable floor general.
Bryce Lindsay Bryce Lindsay 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 State MD | 6’2 | Poly
Overall ranking: No. 14
Positional ranking: No. 3
Lindsay built a reputation for himself his freshmen and sophomore seasons as being a marksman from deep. A huge reason he experienced a major increase in recruitment this summer was by showcasing his point guard skills. Lindsay has an advanced feel for the game and knows how to fit the ball into small windows to generate easy looks for others. While he acted much more as a floor general this summer, he’s still equipped with one of the deadliest shots in his class nationally. Defensively he continues to make strides, but that will be the next step in his development as he prepares himself to be a priority for a handful of mid-to-high major programs.
Deon Perry Deon Perry 5'8" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2022 State MD | 5’8 | Mt. Carmel
Overall ranking: No. 23
Positional ranking: No. 5
Perry helped boost his stock this summer with a talented Team Melo squad. For Mt. Carmel Perry has to be aggressive as a scorer if they want to stay in games. He prefers to operate in ball-screen scenarios and feasts on opposing bigs to drop back on the coverage, as Perry has range well-beyond the high school three-point line. He’s also very shifty off the bounce and takes advantage of small driving lanes to finish with craft around the basket. This summer however, he played more of a table-setting point guard role while still taking advantage of open shots when they came. It revealed his overall IQ and his ability to get his teammates into positions on the floor where they’re at their best. Perry is no stranger to pressure defense and will pick up his man the full length of the floor as long as you want him to. He has active hands both on and off the ball that result in deflections that lead to transition opportunities.
Tyheil Peterson Tyheil Peterson 5'10" | PG Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State MD | 5’10 | Archbishop Spalding
Overall ranking: No. 50
Positional ranking: No. 10
Peterson played a key role for a young Spalding team last season who made a late surge. The 5-foot-10 guard played both on and off the ball offensively, providing a much-needed scoring presence on the perimeter. Peterson is an accurate shooter from three off the catch with time, showed good balance on his pull-ups and isn’t afraid to take on contact while finishing at the basket. Peterson defends at a good level and has the lateral quickness to contain shiftier guards.
Carlos Alexander Carlos Alexander 5'11" | PG Mervo | 2022 MD | 5’10 | Mervo
Overall ranking: No. 64
Positional ranking: No. 16
When it comes to pure talent, Alexander could be somewhere at the top of this list. The 5-foot-10 southpaw has a unique feel for the game and has played with it since he was a freshman. He scores with creativity around in the paint and is a reliable shooter from mid-range. His passing skills, ability to read defenses on the fly and fit no-look passes into small windows make him an electrifying watch. Where Alexander hurts himself is his leadership and I’ve seen on multiple occasions where it negatively impacts his team’s play.
TJ Vaughn TJ Vaughn 5'10" | PG John Carroll | 2022 State MD | 5’10 | John Carroll
Overall ranking: No. 80
Positional ranking: No. 21
It’s no secret that when Vaughn plays well it makes this John Carroll team a juggernaut when you consider the threats next to him. The 5-foot-11 lefty sets the pace for the Patriots and plays a role that requires him to get into the paint, make the defense collapse and quickly locate open teammates. Vaughn is effective in transition with advanced passes or has shown ability to finish with soft touch at the basket while dodging shot blockers. Defensively, Vaughn moves his feet well laterally and is an underrated help side defender who is always willing to take a charge.
Jalen Marshall Jalen Marshall 6'0" | PG Gilman | 2022 State MD | 6’0 | Gilman
Overall ranking: No. 91
Positional ranking: No. 23
Marshall plays alongside Winborne in the Hounds’ backcourt and brings the grittiness that makes Winborne’s life easier on defense. Marshall is the ultimate competitor who is also strong and quick for his size. His explosive athleticism allows him to contest shots at the rim despite him standing just 6-foot tall and offensively he attacks the basket with intentions of finishing through fouls. He has improved his jumper steadily over the calendar year, but it’s still the one area that needs improvement. Like Winborne, Marshall stuff the stat sheet in ways many guards cannot.
