Isaac Detweiler, sophomore, Axtell:
Axtell wasn’t able to get many games in before the break, but they are respected highly enough to be ranked #7 in 1A Div 2. The 5-foot-9 sophomore assumed leadership of the club after it lost some key players to graduation. The shifty guard scored 10 points per game last year, as well as getting the ball to the veteran scorers.
Raef Osterhaus, junior, Centralia:
The Panthers are rated #8 in 1A, largely due to returning a ton of players from their 15-10 season a year ago. Osterhaus has thus far been a reliable scorer. He put in 13 against Nemaha Central, then doubled that with 26 in a big win over Hanover.
Jarik Weiche, senior, Clifton-Clyde:
Clifton-Clyde bolted out of the gate with a 5-0 mark. The 6-foot Weiche is a strong rebounder and has had good scoring games, including 12 against Wakefield and 14 against Troy.
Trent Spiker, junior, Doniphan West:
The multi-sport star Spiker has turned his attention to basketball and is helping the Mustangs improve on their 5-16 mark from a year ago. In addition to powerful rebounding and defense, he scored 16 against Oskaloosa and 11 against Troy.
Gavin Cornelison, senior, Frankfort:
Cornelison can do it all, but he’s taken his scoring to another level as a senior. The 6-foot guard has multiple games of 20 points and has been consistent throughout, scoring, rebounding, defending and getting the ball to open teammates.
Emmitt Jueneman Emmitt Jueneman 6'1" | SF Hanover | 2022 State KS , junior, Hanover (pictured):
Ranked #3 in 1A, the Wildcats are deep, talented and experienced. Jueneman is a 6-foot-2 multi-sport athlete who has done a lot already in his high school career. This season, he has been consistently productive, scoring no less than 17 in any outing, with a high of 26 against Linn.
Jerrit Norris, sophomore, Troy:
The 6-foot-4 sophomore is quickly establishing himself as one of the top stars in the Twin Valley League. He nearly averaged a double-double as a freshman, and he’s been really good in his second go-round. He tossed in 21 against Riverside and 17 against Doniphan West. He’s averaging 16.5 points and 10.3 boards per outing.
Cameron Beardsley, senior, Valley Heights:
The 6-foot-1 guard is up to his old tricks. He averaged 14.9 points last season, and has multiple double-figure games so far in the new season.
Braden Henry, senior, Wetmore:
The 5-foot-11 senior averaged 14 points per contest last year, and is on that pace again for 3-2 Wetmore. He has two games of 16, against Onaga and Blue-Valley Randolph.
