Madison wins on a buzzer beater
In what was just a battle of a game, the Madison Cubs were able to sneak away with a road victory against the Bedford Stars 54-52 thanks to a fadeaway buzzer beater from senior Luke Ommen (15 pts) in OT. The first half saw Madison dominate for the most part before stormed back and started trading buckets. Kooper Staley of Bedford was the main reason for the comeback of the Stars thanks to his 20 points, which included two clutch bombs from behind the arc. Other standouts of the game were Madison seniors Luke Miller (18 pts), Nick Center Nick Center 6'2" | PG Madison | 2021 State IN (14 pts, 14 rbs), and Bedford’s Colten Leach with 17 points. Madison will travel to New Albany on Friday while Bedford will host Jennings County on Saturday.
Homestead beats Blackhawk
This game lived up to hype for sure. In a game of two of Indiana’s best teams, the 4A Homestead Spartans were able to defeat 2A Blackhawk Christian Braves, 72-60. There were a few big performances this game which included Blackhawk’s Caleb Furst Caleb Furst 6'9" | PF Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State #34 Nation IN (27 pts, 9 rbs), Zane Burke Zane Burke 6'2" | SG Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State IN (15 pts, 5 rbs), and Homestead’s Luke Goode Luke Goode 6'6" | SF Homestead | 2021 State #107 Nation IN with 22 points and 5 rebounds. However, no performance was bigger than Homestead’s Fletcher Loyer Fletcher Loyer 6'4" | SG Homestead | 2022 State #108 Nation IN who absolutely went off in the 4Q dropping 13 points of his 23 total points on the night. With this loss, Blackhawk drops their first game of the season (10-1) but will have a chance to bounce back when they face Fort Wayne Lures on Saturday. Homestead remains undefeated (13-0) and will have a chance to remain strong when they travel to Fort Wayne Snider on Friday.
Quarterfinals set for Marion County Tourney
Last night was the first round of the highly anticipated Marion County Tournament. The results of the first round were as followed: James Smith James Smith 6'2" | SG Lawrence Central | 2022 State IN and Lawrence Central defeated Decatur Central 58-38, Evan Altman Evan Altman 6'6" | PF Brebeuf Jesuit | 2021 State IN and Brebeuf Jesuit defeated Mason Gonzales Mason Gonzales 6'0" | PG Franklin Central | 2021 State IN and Franklin Central 57-49, Jayden Brewer Jayden Brewer 6'5" | SF Ben Davis | 2021 State IN and Ben Davis defeated Beech Grove 51-48, Anthony Ball Anthony Ball 6'6" | PF Decatur Central | 2023 State IN and Southport defeated Ronald Johnson Ronald Johnson 6'0" | PG Park Tudor | 2021 State IN and Park Tudor 46-42, Indianapolis Lutheran defeated Indianapolis Roncalli 56-54, Malik Stanley Malik Stanley 6'0" | PG Warren Central | 2021 State IN and Warren Central defeated Jayden Taylor Jayden Taylor 6'4" | SG Perry Meridian | 2021 State #224 Nation IN and Perry Meridian 67-53, and Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN and Pike advanced due to Speedway not playing. With all that said, the quarterfinals have been set and will take place tonight with Lawrence North at Lawrence Central, Brebeuf Jesuit at Pike, Ben Davis at Southport, and Indianapolis Lutheran at Warren Central.
