Totino-Grace knocked off Maple Grove 91-83 led by 24 points from Taison Chatman Taison Chatman 6'4" | PG Totino Grace | 2023 State #35 Nation MN . Here are the Prep Hoops Top Ten Prospect Performances.
One. Taison Chatman Taison Chatman 6'4" | PG Totino Grace | 2023 State #35 Nation MN (6’3 Soph PG of TG).
The Number One Takeaway: Taison’s ability to make clutch shots at key times was a big reason for tonight’s win. At one point he hit back to back threes to push the Crimson to a three score lead which they held much of the game. Chatman also made a three inside the final two minutes crossing over his man and calmly sinking the dagger of the game. Clutch.
More: Chatman knocked down six threes on his way to 24 points making 9 of 16 attempts. Chatman played the role of primary ball handler and primary scorer. Chatman’s ability to separate and quickly release a balance attempt with such consistency is why he is one of the nation’s elite in his class.
Two. Demarion Watson Demarion Watson 6'8" | SF Totino-Grace | 2022 State #150 Nation MN (6’8 Jr Wing of TG).
The Number One Takeaway: I was very impressed with how good Demarion was defensively tonight. At 6-foot-8 Demarion was defending players five or six inches shorter using impressive lateral speed and engulfing length to completely take away opportunity. He also helped over to block three shots and his length is going to lead to a big number of deflections and steals.
More: In his first extensive varsity minutes against a strong opponent Demarion scored 19 points with six boards on 6 of 13 shooting. Loved his split of the defense off the ball screen to create his offense and he knocked down a couple of comfortable looking jumpers on the left wing. All the tools to be a four star national level talent.
Three. Caden Boettcher Caden Boettcher 6'5" | SF Maple Grove | 2021 State MN (6’5 Sr PF of MG).
The Number One Takeaway: Caden could be one of the top rebounders in the metro this year. Cade collected 16 rebounds leading to a double-double (23 points) always getting to the basketball and using his matured frame to move defenders to board.
More: Caden has a bit better shooting touch than I was aware of. Knocked out a couple of jumpers making 10 of 17 field goal attempts. Did a nice job finishing shots in the mid-lane area.
Four. Jon Haakenson Jon Haakenson 6'2" | SG Maple Grove | 2022 State MN (6’1 Jr PG pf MG).
The Number One Takeaway: Jon handled the basketball for the Crimson much of the game and considering this was one of his first chances to do that in extensive minutes against a good opponent, I came away impressed.
More: Haakenson’s known for his defensive intensity in battling to position but tonight he was needed as a playmaker. Jon scored 22 points on 6 of 17 shooting including several right handed attacks getting deep in the lane. Had six assists as well.
Five. Patrick Bath (6’9 Soph PF of TG).
The Number One Takeaway: Bath isn’t just a big young body, he moves well for his size. Bath had the edge against his Crimson opponents because he moved better to collect his dozen points. Ran the floor for a couple scores, hit a couple jumpers, and made 3 of four foul shots.
Six. CJ O’Hara CJ O’Hara 6'4" | SF Park Center | 2023 State #285 Nation MN (6’3 Soph SG of TG).
The Number One Takeaway: O’Hara has a chance to be an elite defender. Like many others tonight CJ got tired at times but much of the game his fight to get over the top of the screens as well as his active hands getting to the ball really caught my eye. CJ totaled 11 points, five boards, and three assists making half of his ten foul shots and three of his five shot attempts.
Seven. Terence Anthony-Larmouth Terence Anthony-Larmouth 6'6" | SF Maple Grove | 2021 State MN (6’6 Sr SF of MG).
The Number One Takeaway: Terence gave us a hint of what his potential can be. Had ten first half points including a open floor dunk, a three, and a tough And1 finish. Has the physical gifts to be a quality scorer in the NWSC. As he becomes more consistent Terence will become an even better prospect.
Eight. Tommy Humphries Tommy Humphries 6'5" | SF Totino-Grace | 2023 State #283 Nation MN (6’3 Soph Wing of TG).
The Number One Takeaway: Tommy was hampered by foul trouble all night and a couple of the whistles were quite poor. He made a big three and was at the foul line plus he passed the ball well. Scored ten points but foul trouble limited what we could see from him.
Nine. Morgan Moore (6’4 Sr SF of MG).
The Number One Takeaway: Moore made a statement tonight and it was all with hustle. Missed a double-double by one rebound totaling ten points and nine rebounds. An off ball hustler getting to high percentage scores and he snuck in and rebounded all night.
Ten. Payton Mogire Payton Mogire 6'8" | C Maple Grove | 2022 State MN (6’9 Jr C of MG).
The Number One Takeaway: Made all of his foul shots, Payton scored on his one shot, was able to get and under to collect six rebounds, used his length around the bucket to contest some shots. A step taken from the last time I saw him play.
