Here are a few performances of note to start tournament week:
Luke Fay, sophomore, Cair Paravel:
The Lions had five players tally double figures in an 81-43 blistering of Maranatha on Tuesday. Fay led the way with 21 points. The 6-foot sophomore hit 8-12 from the field, including 3-5 from beyond the arc.
Zach Clark, junior, Cair Paravel:
The 6-foot-3 junior had a big hand in the blowout win versus Maranatha, racking up 16 points and 6 rebounds. Clark hit 7-9 from the field.
Jack Hutchinson Jack Hutchinson 6'1" | CG Washburn Rural | 2021 State KS , senior, Washburn Rural:
The senior sparkplug of the Junior Blues got off to a hot start, but couldn’t keep it up in a 62-49 loss to Olathe East at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational. Hutchinson drilled three 3-pointers in the first quarter, but finished with just 11 points. It wasn’t enough as senior teammate Joe Berry Joe Berry 6'4" | CG Washburn Rural | 2021 State KS was limited to just 9 points.
Quincey Kidd, junior, Washburn Rural:
Perhaps the highlight of Washburn Rural’s loss to Olathe East was the progress shown by Kidd. The smooth 6-foot-2 guard/forward has seen his role expand as the season progresses. He had a high of 8 points against Topeka High, and nearly matched it with 7 in Monday’s loss.
Josh Williams, senior, Washburn Rural:
The athletic and experienced point guard has seen his role reduced somewhat this season. He stepped up off the bench to provide the Junior Blues 4 points and some seasoned leadership in Monday’s loss.
Nathan Pewe, junior, Shawnee Heights:
There weren’t a lot of highlights for the T-Birds in the opening round of the McPherson Invitational Tournament Monday. Playing without high-scoring senior guard Isiah Johnson Isiah Johnson 5'10" | CG Shawnee Heights | 2021 State KS , the T-Birds didn’t generate much offense. The 6-foot-3 Pewe, a recent insert into the starting lineup, chipped in six points in the loss to Maize South.
Harvey Davis, senior, Shawnee Heights (pictured):
The rugged Davis never goes down without a fight. He battled the bigger inside players for Maize South, keeping the game close for three quarters without much going on the offensive end for the T-Birds. Davis failed to record double figures in scoring for the first time in several outings, compiling six points Monday.
