The 2021 class has been given very limited opportunities to have college coaches watch them in person, so some players might be flying under the radar. This series is hoping to put a spotlight on unsigned seniors who are deserving of recruiting attention at different levels of college basketball.
EJ Farmer EJ Farmer 6'5" | SG Cleveland Heights | 2021 State OH , 6’5 SG Cleveland Heights 2021: Farmer is regarded by some as the top unsigned senior in the state of Ohio. Farmer has good size and has a smooth lefty shooting stroke from the wing position. I haven’t gotten the chance to see Farmer during his senior season, but with my extensive viewing of him as a Sophomore and Junior I feel confident about his talent as a future Division I player.
Camron Mckenzie Camron Mckenzie 6'3" | SG Bethany | 2021 State OH , 6’3 SG Hughes 2021: McKenzie has had some huge scoring games this season, including a 37 point and 12 rebound performance against Alter, that included a game-winner in overtime. McKenzie is a guy I’d 100% consider a shooting guard and not a point guard, as he currently has a negative A/TO ratio. If you need a guard who can really attack the basket and play tough defense then McKenzie could be your guy. McKenzie has also proven himself to be a winner, carrying a lesser talented Hughes team to an unbeaten CMAC season during his Junior season.
Jonah Waag Jonah Waag 6'2" | SG Mentor | 2021 State OH , 6’2 SG Mentor 2021: I love kids who impact the game without needing to score the basketball and few are better at that than Waag. Waag is a defender both on and off ball with his size and quick feet. Waag is somewhat limited offensively with his handle and inconsistent jumper, but he’s making progress this season playing alongside Luke Chicone Luke Chicone 5'9" | PG Mentor | 2021 State OH in a faster paced offense than VASJ had last season. Division II programs should be prioritizing Waag because he’s somebody who will help your program culture and can make an impact right away without needing to take the ball out of upperclassmen scorers.
Anthony McComb Anthony McComb 6'2" | SG Trotwood | 2021 State OH , 6’2 SG Trotwood-Madison 2021: McComb will put up insane scoring numbers in the up and down Trotwood system that has allowed the Rams to be one of the highest scoring teams in the state almost every single season. I’ve gotten to see McComb once and he scored 30 points in that game, proving just the type of scorer that he is.
Tasos Cook Tasos Cook 6'2" | SG Westerville Central | 2021 State OH , 6’2 SG Westerville Central 2021: Cook has taken his game to another level this season and established himself as a potential Division I level prospect. Cook has put in the time in the weight room as the 6’2 guard is one of the most physical players in the Columbus area. Cook has also put the time in to improve his outside shooting, becoming a real threat from downtown this season. Cook and Quincy Clark Quincy Clark 6'3" | PG Westerville Central | 2021 State OH are each one of the top unsigned guards at each position, so low major and Division II programs who need guard help next season should be paying close attention to the Warhawks this season.
Tre Massey Tre Massey 6'2" | SG Brunswick | 2021 State OH , 6’2 SG Brunswick 2021: Massey is one of the top shooters in the state. Massey and Marquis Barnett Marquis Barnett 6'3" | PG Brunswick | 2021 State OH are each scoring over 20 PPG, making them the highest scoring duo in NEO thus far. Massey has some questions to answer about how well he can beat defenders off the dribble and defend in space. His shooting ability will give him chances to stay on the floor when he arrives on a college campus. Again, if you need a shooter I’m not sure how many kids are better from long distance than Massey in the entire state.
