Seniors in the high school class have had some major hurdles to overcome throughout their recruiting process. In this article we’re going to be looking at some point guards who are still available in Ohio from the class of 2021. This is part 1 for the point guard position and we will try to do every position before the end of the month.
Corey Tripp
CoreyTripp6'3" | PGMedina | 2021StateOH, 6’3 PG Medina 2021: Tripp is a player who saw his stock rise at Fall events hosted by 270 Hoops and Neo Spotlight. While Tripp didn’t shine in our only in person viewing this high school season, he’s a guy low and mid major schools should be fighting for. With his size, vision and improved outside shooting, there’s a lot to like about Tripp’s game. As of the new year Tripp only had one division I offer, which is crazy to me.

Clark continued to show his vast improvement from his Junior season and has established himself as a potential Division I prospect. While he currently only has offers from Northwood and Rio Grade, I believe that low major and division II schools should be looking into Clark as a score first point guard. His development with pull-up shooting has been impressive to watch, and while I mentioned that he’s primarily a scorer, he can also distribute to teammates. With key games Vs guys like
Sean JonesSeanJones6'0" | PGGahanna | 2022State#169NationOH coming up, Clark will have opportunities to prove himself as a prospect and hopefully add to his offer total.
Jamarr TalbertJamarrTalbert6'3" | PGRichmond Heights | 2021StateOH, 6’3 PG Richmond Heights 2021: Talbert is an impressive athlete who has been given the ball in his hands more often this season after the graduation of the Spartans old point guard. While I haven’t seen Talbert yet this high school season, watching him over the summer showed some improvements on the offensive end. Talbert is known for his high intensity on the defensive end and is an impressive run and jump athlete. Talbert posted a couple offers back in the winter of 2019, but we’re unsure if those offers are still on the table. Regardless, Talbert is a prospect that division II and low major programs should keep tabs on.
Jakada Stone
JakadaStone6'1" | PGAiken | 2021StateOH, 6’1 PG Aiken 2021: Stone is a pure bucket getter. He scored 22.7 PPG during his Junior season and is just a shade over 20 PPG early in this season. Aiken struggled to start the year but has turned the corner, winning five straight after starting 1-6. Efficiency has been key for stone, who has shot over 50% from the floor in each of the past five games according to the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference website.
Sirr Hughes
SirrHughes5'10" | PGLutheran East | 2021StateOH, 5’10 PG Lutheran East 2021: Hughes has long been a favorite of mine, ever since the first couple times I saw him play. Hughes is a pesky point guard who can get to the bucket and is an underrated shooter. His toughness on the defensive end earned him an offer to Alderson Broaddus in July. Lutheran East is one of the top teams in the state and filled with unsigned senior talent. Scholarship programs should be taking hard looks at their games for a surplus of prospects looking for a place to play next season.
Travonne JacksonTravonneJackson6'5" | PGBuchtel | 2021StateOH, 6’5 PG Buchtel 2021: The term big guard gets thrown around a lot, but Jackson actually defines the position on the basketball court. Jackson is incredibly skinny with his 6’5 frame and can see over the defense with his length. Seeing Jackson in person over the summer, it was easy to see the talent and potential he has. I haven’t gotten the chance to see him this year, but am hoping to do so in the next two weeks. Playing alongside
Chris LivingstonChrisLivingston6'6" | SFBuchtel | 2022StateOH should bring college coaches eyes to Buchtel’s games this season, and hopefully some will notice Jackson’s abilities.
Elijahjuan BurkeElijahjuanBurke6'1" | PGAfricentric | 2021StateOH, 5’10 PG Africentric 2021: For a long time it was uncertain if Burke would be allowed to play his senior season at all, but finally it seems like Columbus City Schools will have winter sports in the very near future. That’s to the benefit of guys like Burke who are seniors and still looking for the right college fit. Burke currently holds offers to Concord, Central State and Wilberforce.
That’s the end of part one of this series, stay tuned for part two where even more point guards will be featured. Eventually we hope to spotlight every available top prospect in the state for college coaches to easily find available scholarship talent.
