Here are the top players from tonight’s game:
1. Ethan Russell Ethan Russell 6'6" | SF Aberdeen Christian | 2023 State SD (2023) |6-5 F| Aberdeen Christian – A versatile player who can hit the three and score inside. He uses his left hand well when finishing and passing. I like the way he moves around the lane and fights for position. His jump shot is almost perfect with textbook form. He is an elite athlete with big-time hops. In the second half, he had a prime-time massive one-handed dunk that left everyone in awe.
2. Malek Wieker Malek Wieker 6'0" | CG Aberdeen Christian | 2023 State SD (2023) |6-0 G| Aberdeen Christian – Lefty point guard who runs the show for the knights. He is a great distributor and ball handler. I like his hesitation move and the way he changes his pace. Malek looks to be a productive shooter from beyond the arc as well who made three triples. He has a nice floater that he shoots with ease. Malek is a very smooth and under control player.
3. Brent Ekanger Brent Ekanger 6'6" | PF Aberdeen Christian | 2021 State SD (2021) |6-6 F| Aberdeen Christian – An exceptional rebounder on offense and defense. He runs the floor well and is a strong athlete. I like how he uses both hands when finishing around the rim. Brent is a great cutter that gets an advantageous position around the basket. He showed a couple of nice spin moves in the lane that resulted in buckets.
4. Steele Hansen Steele Hansen 5'10" | SF Oakes | 2021 State ND (2021) |5-11 G| Oakes – He played hard tonight, but the Tornadoes did not have enough to stick in this one. He is an amazing rebounder for his height. Steele utilizes shot fakes well and finishes strong at the basket. He is relentless on offense and is always attacking. He looked great in the first half with rolling to the rim after a screen. I like how fast he gets up and down the floor on both sides of the ball. He battled all night with the big boys inside. Steele has an efficient spin-move that he uses to create separation and his shot off.
5. Jett Becker (2021) |6-4 F| Aberdeen Christian – He has great footwork. Jett looks to be a capable shooter from deep and a consistent free throw shooter. I like how hard he runs up the court. Jett showcased a few artful post moves that led to easy buckets for him.
6. Ashton Biesterfeld Ashton Biesterfeld 6'4" | PF Oakes | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-4 F| Oakes – A big wide physical post. He showed his touch in the first half with a 15-foot jumper. Ashton is a hard-working rebounder. I like his ability to play through contact and make the “and 1”.
7. Jackson Isakson Jackson Isakson 6'3" | SG Aberdeen Christian | 2023 State SD (2023) |6-3 G| Aberdeen Christian He is a stud athlete. Jackson has silky smooth handles. In the second half, he had a circus-type “and 1” finish that is highlight-reel worthy. Jackson has a solid pull-up jumper from mid-range.
8. Garret Meehl Garret Meehl 5'11" | PG Oakes | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-1 G| Oakes – He has a great outside shot but was not able to get many off tonight. Garret jumps for the tip to start the game, how often does a PG do that? He has great eyes and can pass with both hands. I like how he draws two defenders and finds the open man. Garret has a nice spin move and a crafty floater.
9. Andrew Brennan (2023) |5-10 G| Aberdeen Central – A quick sparkplug off the bench. He has serious handles and drops dimes. Andrew can hit the triple as well.
