Today, we take a look at some of the top scoring point and combo guards that are still available for all levels.
Camryn Carter Camryn Carter 6'2" | CG Oak Hill Academy | 2021 State VA | 6’2” | Oak Hill
Carter came into Oak Hill not as a national name, but the combo guard has been one of the most consistent guys on the Warriors this year and is coming off a big showing in the NIBC at St. James. A two way impact guy, Carter is a guy who will guard the other team’s best player and is also a threat to make shots from multiple levels off the bounce and is able to create for himself and others off the bounce and is excellent late in the shot clock. He recently spoke with Prep Hoop’s Adam Ayalew and mentioned Ole Miss as a top school that’s recruiting him, but he also holds offers from Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Tulane and more.
Jacob Cooper Jacob Cooper 5'9" | PG Green Run | 2021 State VA | 5’9” | Green Run
Cooper can be labeled as a floor general or a pass first point guard as well, but he’s shown over the past year that he’s capable of being the go-to scoring guard as well. While he isn’t the biggest guy on the court, Cooper makes it all look so easy as he has a tight handle and changes speeds and directions well, he can create space and make shots from deep at a high clip and he has a great middle game and is a crafty finisher around the basket. Cooper holds offers from a number of D2 schools including Mount Olive, LeMoyne-Owen, WV Wesleyan, Tusculum, VA Union and more.
Quadir Pettaway Quadir Pettaway 6'0" | PG Woodside | 2021 State VA | 6’0” | Woodside
Pettaway was a standout guy on Miller School the past few years, and chose to transfer back to Newport News going into his senior year and has been on a tear this fall and winter. A smooth scoring guard that can play on or off the basketball, Pettaway has terrific footwork and can create space and he’s a guy who can make tough shots from all over the floor. He gets hot quickly and can fill it up in bunches, and he is seeing interest from a number of schools at multiple levels.
Cam Edmonds Cam Edmonds 6'2" | CG Western Branch | 2021 State VA | 6’1” | Western Branch
Edmonds was one of the top scorers in the 757 last season, and over the fall and winter he has been on a tear including a 32 point outing in session one of the CBG Winter Series. A combo guard that can play on or off the basketball, Edmonds is a knock down shooter from deep who is highly efficient, and he’s able to attack closeouts or use pick-and-rolls to get in the lane where he can score it in the midrange and at the rim. He holds multiple D2 offers including Bluefield State, and should see more and more come along with time.
Christian Moore Christian Moore 6'1" | CG Cape Henry | 2021 State VA | 6’0” | Cape Henry
Another big time scoring guard in the 757, Moore is a guy who is one of the top scorers in Cape Henry’s illustrious basketball history, and is one of the most under recruited guys in the state. An athletic guard who gets hot quickly, Moore is shifty off the bounce, has deep range and can create for himself both in isolation and pick-and-roll scenarios. He holds an offer from Army and would be a great look for any school that needs a guy to fill it up.
Kenard Richardson Kenard Richardson 6'3" | SG Life Christian | 2021 State VA | 6’3” | Life Christian
A former Iona commit, Richardson is the reigning VISAA D3 state POY and an absolute dog on both ends of the floor. He’s developed into a combo guard that can use his size both on and off the basketball to get open, and he’s a deadly midrange shooter who can stop on a dime and shoot the pull-up at a very good clip. He’s become a more consistent shooter from deep and is a big time finisher at and above the rim, and he’s a guy who can guard the other team’s best player as well.
Ricky Goode-Wright Ricky Goode-Wright 5'10" | PG James Monroe | 2021 State VA | 6’0” | James Monroe
Goode-Wright has been the top scorer in the Fredericksburg area over the past few years, and is the leading scorer in James Monroe history already. A highly skilled guard that plays with good pace and a good handle, he’s a guy who can create in isolation situations with ease and can score the ball in a number of ways. He can shoot it from deep, he has good finishing ability around the rim and he’s also able to make others better.
