Both squads are tough defensively, so I am not surprised by the low final score. Grafton led for a majority of the game and looked the part of a top-ranked team.
Halftime Score – Kindred 20 Grafton 30
End of 4 quarters – Kindred 46 Grafton 57
Here are the top players from tonight’s game:
1. Brandon Albrecht Brandon Albrecht 6'1" | SG Grafton | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-4 G| Grafton – He was feeling it from beyond the arc today. Brandon showed his range from NBA depth. He has a really nice shooting stroke. I like how he moves without the ball. Brandon elevates nicely on his jump shot. To end the second quarter, he had a steal and dribbled the distance of the court for a layup before the buzzer. It was a nice momentum boost going into halftime.
2. Justin Garza Justin Garza 5'11" | SG Grafton | 2021 State ND (2021) |5-11 G| Grafton – He shot it well today, his shot from outside was looking good. I like how fluid his shot is. Justin is a nice quick athlete that takes what the defense gives him. He spaced well against the zone. Justin made a nice physical finish today for an “and 1” that showed off his strength. I was impressed with his timely 3-pointer in the fourth quarter when the Spoilers needed a bucket.
3. Max McQuillan Max McQuillan 6'5" | SG Kindred | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-5 G| Kindred – He looked to be the best option for the Vikings today on offense. Max has a nice soft shot when he banks it off the glass. He showed his athleticism with a mid-air 180 spin and finish after a foul. Max showed today that he is a legitimate 3-point shooter. I was impressed with his multiple physical finishes. Max showed his quick hands on D when he stripped the ball away without a foul. He is an aggressive athletic player.
4. Stevan Garza Stevan Garza 6'2" | SG Grafton | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-3 G| Grafton – I was impressed early in the game when he attacked from the baseline and finished with a reverse layup. He showed off his great hops on the offensive boards. Stevan does a nice job of taking care of the rock and getting the Spoilers into their offense. He had very little trouble against the press Kindred put on late in the game.
5. William Jiskra William Jiskra 6'4" | SF Grafton | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-4 G| Grafton – I was impressed with how aggressive he is on the offensive boards. He was tough on post defense today and limited the Vikings to few points from the block. William cut well against the zone and produced a few buckets.
6. Gavin Keller Gavin Keller 6'9" | PF Kindred | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-9 F| Kindred – His presence was felt on the defensive side of the ball with multiple blocked shots. I liked his quick feet on a post-up basket in the second half. Gavin showed that he can drain the 15-footer with a made jump shot from the baseline. He looks to be a solid free-throw shooter.
7. Matthew Pearson (2021) |6-0 G| Kindred – In the first half he attempted to throw a lob pass from the left-wing, and it went in the basket for 2 points. I do not think I have ever seen that happen before. Mathew is a left-handed shooter. He looks to be Kindred’s best threat from outside.
8. Elijah Heinrich (2021) |5-11 G| Kindred – He is a hard worker, a hustler, and a grinder. I like his effort on the O-boards. Elijah had a nice back-cut that he finished with a layup.
9. Luis Balderas Jr. (2021) |5-9 G| Grafton – He had the first basket of the game for the Spoilers and it was a nice in-rhythm three-pointer. Luis is a quick unselfish guard.
10. Jaiden Peraza Jaiden Peraza 6'5" | SF Kindred | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-4 F| Kindred – He is a physical post player. Jaiden had a smooth baby hook finish in the first half. He is a nice athlete with plenty of potential.
