Continue ReadingRebounding is a vital part of the game of basketball often over shadowed so today we are going to look at some of the leading rebounders in Kansas City and the greater surrounding area. Rebounding is all about effort, instinct, and skill, and everyone on this list brings all three of these aspects to the table for their respective teams.
Kennedy Atkinson, 6’3 Forward, 2021, Harrisonville: Atkinson is one of the top statistical rebounders not only in the Kansas City area, but in the state of Missouri. He is an all out effort monster and has a knack for finding the ball both off the rim and getting to loose balls. he is currently averaging 12.1 rebounds per game for a very good Harrisonville team, where the 6’3 forward fills his role perfectly.
Sean Mitchell, 6’3 Forward, 2021, Van Horn: Mitchell is a tremendous football player and will play it at the next level, but he has been a tremendous addition to the Van Horn team this year that is loaded with guard talent and emerging post players. Mitchell has brought a veteran savvy and toughness to the club and plays with great emotion and effort, especially on the glass where the Falcons need him the most. Guards Jaden Monday Jaden Monday 6'0" | PG Van Horn | 2021 State MO and Jeremy Paige are both great rebounders from the guard spot, but Mitchell give them some size and athleticism to bang around inside on the glass. He is averaging 7.6 rebounds per game.
Eli Wingert Eli Wingert 6'8" | PF Blue Springs | 2021 State MO , 6’8 Forward, 2021, Blue Springs: Wingert is the full package from the forward spot, and he is doing his job for a very talented Blue Springs squad. He is catching and finishing dump offs and lobs, scoring on his opportunities on post touches, protecting the rim on defense, and rebounding the ball at a very high rate. He is currently averaging 7.9 rebounds per game, and that combined with his overall presence, has been dominate inside this season.
De’Waun Norton, 6’4 Forward, 2022, KC Central: Norton has a great build to him at 6’4, 212 pounds and is extremely strong. He uses his size, motor, and strength well rebounding the ball at a 7.9 rebound per game clip. He has great hands and an ability to secure rebounds in a variety of ways. He has a solid offensive game as well that even includes him being able to stretch the floor some.
Najee Williams Najee Williams 6'3" | SG Truman | 2021 State MO , 6’3 Guard/Wing, 2021, Truman (Pictured): Najee is a tremendous athlete with the ability to jump out of the gym, explode in transition, and put together some highlights. He is also at using his supreme athleticism to get himself on the glass rebounding the ball very well this season at 7.5 per game. His ability to rebound the ball is a big bonus to what he brings to the game in all other aspects in terms of scoring, playmaking, and defending.
Andrew Orr Andrew Orr 6'8" | PF Blue Valley North | 2021 State KS , 6’7 Forward, 2021, Blue Valley North: The recent Washburn University signee is having himself a tremendous senior campaign and he is doing a great job of highlighting one of his best traits, dominating on the glass. Him and running mate Isaac Patterson Isaac Patterson 6'6" | PF Overland Park | 2021 State KS combine for a little over 15 rebounds per game with Orr averaging 7.9 of them. Orr is one of the best rebound, outlet, rim running sequence bigs I have seen, and I am sure that helped catch the eye of Washburn.
Isaac Patterson Isaac Patterson 6'6" | PF Overland Park | 2021 State KS , 6’5 Wing, 2021, Blue Valley North: As previously stated, Patterson and his teammate Orr do a tremendous job at rebounding the ball. Patterson brings it from the wing and is also a very gifted offensive rebounder flying in from the perimiter. Patterson is one of the more versatile wings in the Kansas City area, and his 7.4 rebounds per game are just a notch of what he brings to the table overall.
Cortland Hervey, 6’6 Center, 2021, Bonner Springs: Harvey has great size and length which helps him control the middle and rebound the ball at a high level. For a Bonner Springs team with a lot of potential there, he has held his own in some big time matchups with other talented bigs, especially on the glass where he averages 7.4 rebounds per game. He has a good sense for rim protection as well.
