District 2
Chuckey-Doak elevated their position tremendously with 2 wins in 2 days by a combined 4 points and yet the Greeneville Green Devils are still clearly the class of 2AA. Jakobi Gillespie Jakobi Gillespie 6'0" | PG Greeneville | 2022 State TN maintains contact with Lipscomb’s coaching staff. He is a future college player for certain. Entering the final full week of January, GHS (7-0) is two full games ahead of the second-place Grainger Grizzlies (5-2). In fact, Greeneville ended Grainger’s proud 7-game winning streak just last week.
Leaders for Grainger are shooter Jaxon Williams and seniors Brody Grubb Brody Grubb 6'2" | SF Grainger | 2021 State TN and Logan Foster. The senior Foster is averaging 5.6 points per game and fifth on the team with 3.5 rpg.
Jaxon Williams is absolutely the best college basketball prospect. We featured him back in early December after Alcoa and Grainger battled.
Jaxon leads the team in points per game with 12.8 a night. His 5.3 rebounds per trails only Emmanuel Atkins (5.5 rpg) and Williams is second on the team in passing (2.8 apg.)
The one sophomore contributor is Drew Branson (2.2 ppg, 1.0 apg).
District 3
Gatlinburg-Pittman is months into a barn-burning tour.
The Highlanders are riding high with an 8-game winning streak, including a sweep of Austin-East.
Consider the power and size of GP. Kevin Burkett, like Atlas, carries the weight of the basketball world on his shoulders. The dual-sport athlete finished off Austin-East with the following layup.

#20 Bryson Reid* (Soddy-Daisy ’22) – Soddy-Daisy did not bring a wide variety of sizes to the gym. The team is uniform in both their jersey color and their heights. Most of the guards are also playing forwards. For a team with this level of height similarity it can be challenging to find a steady forward. Bryson attacked the lane with fire and gave his team some needed energy in the first quarter.
Seth Sausville (Walker Valley ’22) – The work rate of Seth provided Walker Valley with points, but just as importantly contagious enthusiasm. Sausville finished repeatedly after contact. When the S.S. Lefty got to the free throw line he finished wonderfully. Hit a corner three in the third quarter. The release and shooting form appeared smooth. The game was well out of hand at that point, for what it its worth. Early in the fourth quarter, Sausville dropped another beauty through the cylinder of dreams.
Peyton Ratcliff (Walker Valley ’22) – Floppy red hair danced atop Peyton’s head, but this was no joyous sight for the hosting Trojans. Peyton’s dancing hair repeatedly signified his return to defensive end following a deep three-pointer. Soddy-Daisy lacked the outside shooting skill to equalize. Ratcliff is one contributing member of the highly productive junior class. After establishing his shooting prowess, Ratcliff suffered a nasty clothesline closeout while attempting another three-pointer late in the second quarter. Ratcliff’s strengths are outside shooting and help defense. He sees the game well. Ratcliff is not the blazing penetrator some undersized point guards are. Catch-and-shoot is certainly a bankable skill to his game though.
District 10
Of all the districts, the “Clarksville” district earned the most detailed weekend look from us.
District 11
Franklin vs. Northeast (1/28)
Jaylan Miller Jaylan Miller 6'0" | PG Clarksville Northeast | 2021 State TN checking Reed Kemp Reed Kemp 6'0" | PG Franklin | 2021 State TN was a true joy. Miller is scrappy beyond measure and an acceptable athletic equal to Kemp. Despite his effortful defense, Reed rounded out to the arc with a few down-screens. Miller let him loose and Kemp buried a fantastic falling triple as an Eagle arm tried to block (fouled instead).
The series reminded of March basketball, a portion of the season that both teams are capable of reaching, Franklin more so.
