Recruiting Report: Yerald Mieses (2021)
Yerald Mieses Yerald Mieses 6'2" | PG Hamilton Heights | 2021 State TN has helped his stock as much as any unsigned senior competing in the NIBC Invitational at The St. James this month. Coming from the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, the 6-foot-2 point guard has proven that he belongs on the national stage. Through five games at the NIBC, Mieses is averaging 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game.
“I’m a point guard, but a score-first point guard,” Mieses told Prep Hoops. “I like to score, but I get my teammates involved too.”
There’s no doubt that Mieses has faced a steep learning curve since he arrived at Hamilton Heights 3 years ago. The level of competition is unlike anything he faced back in the DR, but he’s embraced the challenge in part because of his love for the game.
“I’ve been playing basketball for about 6 years. I started playing because my mom used to work near a gym and I would hoop there with my friends when I got bored,” Mieses explained. “That’s when I started loving the game and took it for real. In my country, we don’t have that much talent. When I came to the U.S., I realized That I need to work hard every day because there are a lot of really good players all around the country.”
Mieses understands the value that playing on a stage like this can for one trying to gain exposure. He’s been a first-hand beneficiary of that. Multiple D1 programs have reached out to both him and his High School Coach, Stephen Cook, in recent days. Some of the programs he’s heard from include Chattanooga, South Florida, Charleston Southern, and Arkansas.
What is Mieses looking for in a school?
“Somewhere that I’m going to feel like I’m at home. Like I’m at Hamilton Heights. I haven’t been home for three years, but I feel like I’m at home here. The way my coach treats me. He’s more than a coach. He’s more like a father. Like a friend. He’s just trying to help me get better in all aspects of life.”
