Continue ReadingAcross the state, lots of games are being played out of conference due to the nature of Covid-19 and many teams looking to fill up gaps in their schedules. For many teams, this means playing against vastly different classifications night in and night out, and we are truly beginning to see the players across the state of Idaho that are rising to the competition and playing well regardless of the level. As teams press on, there are a number of great players across the state that have caught my attention and are playing very well in this very odd season. Continue reading for a look at a few games from the past week in the state of Idaho.
Lewiston vs. Columbia: In a battle between north Idaho and the Treasure Valley, Columbia was able to win a hard-fought battle thanks to a couple of clutch performances and forcing some costly turnovers in the final minutes of the non-conference battle. Columbia is off to a great start so far this season and they showed their ability to close out games and play against tough competition anywhere in the state. The Wildcats from Columbia were led by Jaylen Alexander Jaylen Alexander 6'7" | PF Columbia | 2021 State ID , a 6’7″ small forward who contributed 19 points and a handful of blocks to seal the win. On the opposing side, Lewiston was led by Braydon Forsman who added 16 points and a clutch three at the end of the game to pull within striking distance.
Highland vs. Potlatch: A matchup between two great programs in lower divisions allowed us to see a down-to-the-wire game with lots of great action. Highland was able to secure a close victory over Potlatch thanks to some late game heroics, defensive stops with the clock winding down, and an all-out effort before the time ran out. Highland was led by Lane Wassmuth who had a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds and an overall excellent personal performance.
Hillcrest vs. Mountain Home: Hillcrest jumped out to a big early lead and barely looked back on their way to an easy victory over the Tigers from Mountain Home. The Knights put together a solid all-around performance and showed that they are definitely in the running to be one of the best teams to come out of eastern Idaho. Mountain Home was led by Brandon Bethel Brandon Bethel 5'11" | PG Mountain Home | 2022 State ID contributing 8 in a tough night both offensively and defensively for the Tigers.
