Host Otterville defeated Northwest in the third-place game while top-seeded Lincoln defeated Slater 52-42 to take the championship. Here is a look at some of the top standouts from the Otterville Tournament:
Kyle Eckhoff 6’3″ Lincoln: The talented 2023 guard scored a team high 11 points in the championship game and 29 points in the semifinals. He’s a smooth operator with good size and a lot of potential. He ended the third quarter of the championship game by dribbling up court and sinking a 3-pointer. It looked so fluid, it was effortless. He has a nice pull up jumper and he can score in the lane with his size. He handles the ball well and can make plays for his teammates. He has the size and athleticism to impact the game on defense as well.
Jakorie Terrill 6’3″ Slater: An athletic 2022 wing who averaged 13 points a game in the tournament. He is at his best on the offensive end when he is slashing and attacking the basket off the dribble, where he finishes well at the rim. He also has stretches when he can really lock down defensively when he puts his athleticism and length to good use. He moves his feet well and can cover ground.
Pierson Tichenor 6’3″ Northwest: The 2022 wing had a huge third-place game against Otterville as he scored a game-high 33 points. He is very athletic and was very fluid in his drives to the basket as he finished quite easily. He did make a 3-pointer, but most of his action was around the basket. He also displayed his explosiveness when he threw down a tomahawk dunk in transition in the second half.
Mack Hesse 6’0″ Lincoln: A 2023 guard who was very impressive in the championship game. I liked how he looked to push the pace and put pressure on the defense whenever possible. The young lefty has good length and got buckets on some nice drives to the basket. He also made his free throws late in the game to seal the victory for his team.
Keegan Zdybel Keegan Zdybel 6'3" | SG Slater | 2021 State MO 6’3″ Slater: The 2021 guard had his best game of the tournament when he scored 22 points in the victory over Northwest. He is a solidly-built athlete who also plays quarterback on the football field. He uses that strength to score in the lane through contact plus he threw down a number of dunks in transition. He can also create for himself off the dribble and hit a step-back jumper after he creates the space.
Cyrus Gilmore 5’10″ Otterville: The speedy 2021 point guard scored 23 points in the Eagles’ victory over Northwest in the third-place game. He is one of the fastest kids I’ve seen this year with the ball in his hands. When he got the ball in the open court, he was off to the races at full-tilt boogie. In the half court offense, he drained four 3-pointers as he had the hot hand throughout the evening.
Isaiah Gilmore 5’10″ Otterville: The 2021 guard scored 11 points in the third-place game victory over Northwest and added 15 points in the semifinals against Lincoln. He also reached the 1,000th mark of his career in the third place game as he made a 3-pointer from the right wing to reach the special milestone. He also plays with good pace while being able to shoot the basketball from 3-point distance.
Gavin Killion 6’0″ Northwest: The 2023 guard had a productive tournament with 21 points in the semifinals and 16 in the third place game. He was very good at getting into the lane and slicing his way through tight spaces to get buckets. He also did a good job of changing speeds on the dribble to keep defenders off balance.
Jacobie Breshears 6’4″ Slater: A robust 2021 post player who checks in at about 260-pounds, the big fella knows how to take advantage of his size in the low post. When he decided that he needed a little space inside, folks were being moved like furniture. He also set a few bone-crunching screens. He caught the ball well in traffic and scored on a nice drop step. He also passed the ball well out of double teams as he usually drew a crowd when he caught the ball.
