From playing major roles on very good teams to leading the show on younger teams, the sophomores have shown that they are more than capable of contributing at this early stage of their careers.
Here we take a look at a few of those guys who are making an impact for the respective teams.
Kiah Key Kiah Key 5'9" | PG Hartselle | 2023 State AL , 5’9 PG, Hartselle: His style of play fits right in playing alongside one of the top scorers in the country in Liberty signee Brody Peebles Brody Peebles 6'2" | CG Hartselle | 2021 State #215 Nation AL . His ability to run the offense and find teammates has been on full display all season. Now he is a very good shooter and is capable of carrying the scoring load when needed. Definitely, a player to watch as the Tigers look to get back to Birmingham.
Brady Donlon Brady Donlon 6'8" | C Asheville HS | 2023 State AL , 6’8 C, Homewood: Got a “Mr.” name for you and it fits this prospect pretty well. “Mr. Big Man Balling!” This back to the basket post has shown very early the ability to score at a high clip in the painted area. He has good hands and does a great job scoring from either block over his left shoulder. Though he plays below the rim he is extremely efficient at scoring around the basket. As his athleticism gets better look for him to be an even bigger problem on the block for any team.
Cody Baerlocher Cody Baerlocher 6'7" | SG Madison Academy | 2023 State AL , 6’6 SG, Madison Academy: A shooter with size. His ability to shoot the basketball at this time is borderline elite. He has really improved his ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. With his size, he has the ability to be a very effective scorer around the basket if teams overplay him for the shot. As his lateral movement and handle continue to improve he will be a player coaches will have on their radar.
Kaden Justice Kaden Justice 6'7" | SF Sand Rock | 2023 State AL , 6’6 SF, Sand Rock: “Mr. Put It On Your Head!” This kid is exactly what his Mr. names says, he does not mind dunking on anyone at any time possible. He has shown elite ability in the open floor with his ability to run, catch, and finish. He is becoming more efficient in the half-court improving his ability to shot the ball with range. His athleticism right now really sets him apart in the class as he is one of the best the class has to offer. Looking to see more as the season winds down and his game develops.
Zach Gray Zach Gray 6'7" | PF Spain Park | 2023 State AL , 6’6 SF, Spain Park: Another one of those long and athletic players coming out of that Sapin Park program. Right now he is more of a 4 man but with continued work will project out to the wing position. He is great right now playing on the porch (either short corner) catching and finishing around the rim. He has shown the willingness and ability to shoot the ball from the outside and that will only continue as he continues to work. He is playing a very good role on a loaded Jaguars team.
