District 1 is known to be the best district in the state producing numerous of champions and final four contenders in the past 5 years, and I expect that to continue. Here are some Underclassmen that will make an impact this year and for years to come!
PF Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM 2023 Volcano Vista: A 6’6 post with much improved hands and finishing ability, Sean transfers in from East Mountains, and the home school division. This kid dunks everything, and will become more comfortable posting up, and protecting the rim over the next few years, has legit division 1 potential. I expect to see him make an immediate impact for VVHS after losing Terrin Dickey.
SG Amari Brown Amari Brown 6'3" | PG Sandy Creek | 2024 State GA 2024, Cibola (pictured): Just a freshman, but the only player in the district to hold a Division 1 offer, and I expect to see him be one of the leading scorers. Standing at 6’2, he is a strong lefty that can get to the rim at will. Good finisher with a really nice midrange game, and an array of floaters to compliment his pull up jumper. Long, and strong he has potential to be a very good defender. I see him getting even taller, and his body filling out with a high school weight room. Recently received an offer from Western Illinois.
SG Tony Pacheco Tony Pacheco 6'0" | SF Atrisco Heritage | 2023 State NM 2023, Atrisco Heritage: A jack of all trades, Tony worked his way into the lineup as a freshman last season eventually earning major minutes due to his great defensive play. He will be asked to produce much more with the ball in his hands this season, as well as continue to grab rebounds at a high rate.
PG Chris Parra Chris Parra 6'0" | PG Atrisco Heritage | 2023 State NM 2023, Atrisco Heritage: High IQ player with a deep range to go with his mid-range pull up (Great Form). Pure point guard that will run any offense to perfection, moves the ball in transition and is good at making reads out of pick and roll situations. Stands at about 5’10 but could grow a bit more and his frame will definitely fill out. Will be an interesting player to keep an eye on.
PG Marcus Wilson Marcus Wilson 6'1" | PG Bella Vista Prep | 2024 State AZ 2024, Cibola: Marcus will enter high school as one of the most athletic kids in the states. A track and field star, he is lightning quick with the ball in his hands, and has the explosiveness to finish at the rim in traffic. Can shoot the 3 ball with the best in the state, and is also a good playmaker. He and Amari will form a dynamic backcourt for the next four years, and I expect him to garner division 1 offers at an early stage as well.
