In this piece, we break down the performances of the SoCal-based players who attended the event in Arizona.
Kenneth Clayton, Riverside King – Active and slashing wing who made his mark by getting to the rim and finishing in the open court and half-court settings. The 6-foot-5 wing showed the ability to finish with both hands around the basket and used his length and long strides to beat bigger, slower defenders off the bounce.
Michael Birket, Crean Lutheran – Versatile wing with good size, length and a little bit of sneaky athleticism. Made his impact as a guy who can stretch the floor consistently with his catch-and-shoot three-point shot, but also showed the ability to put it on the deck and get to the basket for a strong finish.Â
DJ Meleney, Corona Santiago – The quick and crafty point guard really did a nice job fo getting to his comfortable scoring spots, managing the pace of the game and using his speed to push the tempo when needed. The 6-foot-1 senior has a lightning quick crossover and good acceleration which allowed him to get past the first level of defense with ease and get two feet in the paint which opened up scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates.
DeDrick Javonte-Eli Martin, St. Anthony – Another intriguing wing type (in our 2021 rankings as DJ Allen DJ Allen 6'6" | SF St. Anthony | 2021 State CA-S ) who can score in a variety of ways from multiple spots of the floor. The 6-foot-8 swingman has smooth catch-and-shoot ability from three-point range, but in this event also showed that he has some low-post offensive tools, as well, finishing over either shoulder with either hand.
