Here are some of the top performances in the area from earlier this week:
From KC:
Nate Johnson, senior, KC-Washington:
The small guard who has been receiving college offers visited Atchison and gave the Redmen all they could handle. He ripped off 31 points, nearly two-thirds of his team’s points, in the 52-49 loss. Johnson’s father played at Nebraska, and junior will have a chance to make a name for himself on the next level soon.
Alston Mason Alston Mason 6'2" | CG Blue Valley Northwest | 2021 State KS , senior, Blue Valley Northwest:
The brilliant point guard was ready for a match-up with Lawrence’s Zeke Mayo Zeke Mayo 6'4" | CG Lawrence | 2021 State KS , and his team came out on top. A huge fourth quarter provided the separation in a 72-50 win over the Lions. Mason is incredibly elusive and slick penetrating defenses, and he finds his teammates for easy buckets. He also put up 18 points of his own in the victory.
Jack Chapman Jack Chapman 6'5" | CG Blue Valley Northwest | 2021 State KS , senior, Blue Valley Northwest:
Another superstar from KC, the 6-foot-5 Chapman knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points. The versatile and explosive Chapman can kill you in a number of ways, and his perimeter shooting is particularly deadly.
From NE Kansas:
Xavier Hernandez, senior, Atchison:
The high-scoring senior didn’t disappoint in his matchup with KC-Washington’s Nate Johnson. Hernandez hit four 3-pointers, recorded 18 points, and most importantly, got the win 52-49.
Zeke Mayo Zeke Mayo 6'4" | CG Lawrence | 2021 State KS , senior, Lawrence:
Mayo and the Lions came up short in the date with the state’s top team – Blue Valley Northwest. Lawrence entered the game ranked #2 in 6A and would love another shot at the big city rival.
Dayton Logan, senior, Mission Valley:
After a slow start, Mission Valley is coming on of late. The attack has become more balanced, but the 6-foot-5 Logan is still the focal point. After a couple of slow games, Logan tossed in 20 points in a win over McClouth. He is a powerful presence in the lane, and is also a threat to shoot from deep.
Zac Kramer, junior, Namaha Central:
Kramer played a big role in the Thunder’s thrilling 58-57 overtime win over Perry-Lecompton. Kramer posted a season-high 17 points. Kramer gives Nemaha Central an athletic guard to provide steady ball handling and a deep threat.
Maddox Decker Maddox Decker 5'9" | PG Santa Fe Trail | 2021 State KS , senior, Santa Fe Trail:
Decker hit five 3-pointers to help lead WHAT to a 82-76 win over Silver Lake. The honorable mention 3A returner Decker finished with 27 points in the victory. It was the 6-foot senior’s fifth game with at least 21 points this year.
