The Mr. Basketball award is generally considered the highest individual honor given in Michigan high school basketball. Since 1981, 18 of the winners of this award have gone on to be drafted in the NBA. It has been won by legends such as Chris Webber, Terry Mills, Cassius Winston, Glen Rice, and Sam Vincent. Last year, Benton Harbor’s Scooby Johnson claimed the honor. Given the difficulties involved with this season, the Mr. Basketball award may be even more difficult than normal to determine. It seems like the right time to introduce some of the candidates for the award this season.

He’s a supremely talented shooting guard at Detroit Frederick Douglass. Prep Hoops Michigan has him ranked as the number 2 prospect in the state and Prep Hoops has him at number 76 in the country. Brooks II is a part of one of the top recruiting classes in the country at Michigan State University.
