There is no better time than MLK Day, to take a look at positive young leaders in our communities. There are many gifted and intelligent young leaders in Michigan high school basketball. We should celebrate the athletes that make our futures look brighter.

If you are involved in Michigan high school basketball and haven’t talked to Black, you really should. He’s focused on his success, yet selfless in achieving it. The athletic forward is a tremendous role model, not just for athletes, but for everyone.

Whether it be basketball or something totally different, Pierre Brooks Pierre Brooks 6'5" | SG Detroit Douglass | 2021 State #76 Nation MI II will be famous for the good things he does someday. He’s extremely intelligent both on and off the court. Brooks II is the type of player and person that people are willing to stand behind and follow his lead.

It seemed sometimes like Crenshaw had his back against the wall a lot in high school. For whatever reason, he always seemed to have doubters. Well, for those doubters, look at him now. Crenshaw proved he can brush it off and succeed no matter what. Critical community leaders need this same characteristic. Crenshaw will be a person that others turn to.

Elizondo gets overlooked at times as a prospect, but he has next level talent. It’s easy to see his teammates turn to him for direction and leadership. I have a feeling that, in time, it will be other adults looking his way for direction.

I wonder if Jaylen Hodges Jaylen Hodges 6'3" | PG Bridgeport | 2021 State MI knows how valuable he’ll be to his community someday. He takes so much in stride and continues to make the most of his talents. When he tells the next generation about how he battled to become the player and person he is, they WILL listen. Hodges will be a great addition to a college program, you can bet on that.
