As teams enter into the bulk of their conference schedule, many teams are beginning to slim the rotation and big time players are stepping up and rising to the challenge. This has created a lot of opportunities for high level basketball to be played across the state night in and night out, regardless of the conference or the size of the school. As March becomes nearer and nearer, many of these teams will be looking to their best players to help them get to the state tournament with a chance of ultimately becoming state champions. Continue reading for a look at a handful of recent games from across the state.
Fruitland vs. Homedale: Fruitland was able to earn a solid 23-point victory over Homedale thanks to a great offensive game and a lockdown effort on defense. The Fruitland Grizzlies were able to hold Homedale to only 41 points and put on a fantastic defensive display throughout the night. On the other side, Fruitland had a balanced offensive attack that allowed them to overcome any of the runs Homedale attempted to make. Homedale was led by 9 points from Jaxon Dines Jaxon Dines 5'10" | PG Homedale | 2023 State ID . Fruitland was led by Hyrum Lindsey Hyrum Lindsey 6'4" | PF Fruitland | 2021 State ID scoring 24 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, and Nolan Bower Nolan Bower 6'8" | C Fruitland | 2022 State ID had 18 points and 10 rebounds on the way to victory.
Mountain View vs. Timberline: Mountain View secured a tough win over Timberline in a battle of the 5A SIC. Their 13-point victory was a result of tough defense and the ability to score when needed most and hitting free throws down the stretch. The Mountain View Mavericks were not entirely clicking on offense, but they held Timberline to only 39 points and didn’t allow the Timberwolves to have any easy baskets. Mountain View was led by Drew Carter scoring 13 points and Noah White Noah White 5'9" | PG Mountain View | 2021 State ID added 11 points. Timberline struggled offensively as well, but Cooper Lumsden Cooper Lumsden 6'3" | SG Timberline | 2021 State ID was able to contribute 18 points and dish out 4 assists.
