Southwestern (Hanover) @ Madison – 1/22/2021
Luke Miller (Madison) (2021) – 6’1″ SF: Miller is the top scorer for the Cubs this season, and despite not having his best shooting performance, he still tallied 17 points in the win. He shoots with tons of confidence, and he showed that he can hit from all over the court. Miller knocked down a floater, a mid-range J, and a couple of threes. The southpaw was just 3-10 from the outside, but he hit the shots when he needed to. Miller doesn’t have much college attention, but if a school wants a player who can fill it up, he could be a player to watch. With his 17 point performance, he needs just 12 points to become a 1,000 point scorer for his career.
Luke Ommen (Madison) (2021) – 6’2″ SF: Ommen was outstanding with just his second 20-point performance of his career. He does all of his work on the offensive end of the floor with his nice little mid-range jumper. He is very consistent with good touch from anywhere inside about 12 feet. Ommen is also a physical player who is going to hustle up and down the floor and not be afraid to put his body on the line. Ommen also tallied 7 boards as he attacks the glass in a major way. If Ommen can score well, the Cubs are always going to be tough to beat.
Jackson Falconberry Jackson Falconberry 6'6" | PF Madison | 2022 IN (Madison) (2022) – 6’6″ PF: Falconberry has a ridiculous amount of length in his 6’6 frame, and he knows how to use it to make plays on the defensive end of the floor. He is a physical player and a good shot blocker, and despite his lanky frame, he is able to move his feet quickly to stay in front of guards. He is also very aggressive on the glass and does not hesitate to push the ball up the floor. Falconberry can knock down the mid-range, but the majority of his work came on dump-offs down low and offensive rebound put-backs. He tallied 14 points and 8 rebounds in the win, and he also had 2 blocks and a steal on the defensive end of the floor. With Falconberry’s skill-set, he should be receiving a considerable amount of Division 3 attention in the coming year.
Matthew Williams Matthew Williams 6'5" | PF Southwestern-Hanover | 2021 State IN (Southwestern-Hanover) (2021) – 6’4″ C: Williams also struggled hitting shots in this one. At just 4-15 from the floor, Williams had just his second single-digit scoring output of the season. However, Williams did show a large amount of confidence in his shot. He is also showed some good post moves around the rim. I would have liked to see him be much more patient inside as it seemed like he was rushing his shots inside which led to forced misses. Williams is aggressive on the glass and a nice shot blocker, and he did those two parts of his game well. Southwestern is 0-2 in the two games in which Williams hasn’t scored double-figures, so he is going to be a major part of their success going forward.
Columbus North @ Perry Meridian – 1/23/2021
Sam King Sam King 6'8" | PF Columbus North | 2022 State IN (Columbus North) (2022) – 6’5″ PF: King is a physical, bruiser in the low post, and he makes an impact on the game. Although he has only averaged 4 points and 4 rebounds this season, he is an underrated playmaker. He is a very good passer out of the post, and he never seems to force things inside. He has good touch around the rim. With Barker gone, he is going to have a bigger role next year. For King’s game to go to the next level, he is going to need to improve as a scorer at all levels of the floor.
Jayden Taylor Jayden Taylor 6'4" | SG Perry Meridian | 2021 State #224 Nation IN (Perry Meridian) (2021) – 6’3″ SF: Taylor will be playing Big East basketball next season at Butler, and he showed why on Saturday. Taylor uses his outstanding amount of length to get to the rim and finish through contact. He has good touch around the rim and great body control inside. He can knock down the mid-range jumper, and his euro step is definitely at the next level. Taylor totalled 24 points and 7 boards in the win. If he can play at this level, he should lead Perry Meridian to a chance at a run in the Sectional, and he should get plenty of playing time at the next level.
