Early on in this one, it looked like the Packers would have their way with the Deacons. West Fargo burst out of the gate and opposed their will on Shanley. Brett Limke Brett Limke 6'1" | PG West Fargo | 2022 State ND , Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND , and Carter Birrenkott Carter Birrenkott 6'5" | PF West Fargo | 2021 State ND scored with ease against the Shanley man-man defense. The Packers had an impressive start and had the score at 18-6 before things would change. Shanley switched to a 2-3 zone and changed the momentum of the game. The Deacons would go on a 9-0 run and close to gap to an 18-15 score in favor of the Packers. West Fargo did manage to find their footing and build the lead back up at the end of the half with a 27-19 lead.
For those of us that though West Fargo was out of the woods against the Shanley 2-3 zone, we were wrong. The Deacons kept the game close and within striking distance. Just when I thought West Fargo would finish them off Shanley came roaring back. At one point late in the second half, the Deacons came within four points at 50-46. West Fargo would add a few more points, but Shanley came right back to make it 53-49. The Deacons had a few chances to hit shots and make it into a one-possession game. However, the bend but do not break defense of the Packers prevailed. West Fargo did a nice job on the boards late to limit Shanley to one shot. For the most part, the Packers knocked down their free throws and iced the game. West Fargo had a scare and was tested tonight. Yet, the Packers left south Fargo with another win and plenty of lessons to learn from.
Made three-pointers- West Fargo= 1 Shanley= 2
Game Takeaways – This is the least amount of 3’s made in a game I have witnessed all season. Shanley is getting better with every game this year. The Deacons played an impressive 2-3 zone tonight. I like how hard Shanley plays for the length of the game. West Fargo needs to work on their zone offense. The Packers are a very good rebounding team. Limke is a great shooter, he needs to find ways to get shots against the zone. I liked how West Fargo overcame adversity on the road tonight. It was not anywhere near their best performance and they still found a way to win.

West Fargo
Brett Limke Brett Limke 6'1" | PG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 G| West Fargo – 14 points in the game with an impressive 8-8 from the charity stripe. He has a great change of pace that keeps defenders off balance. Brett is an elite free throw shooter. He does a nice job of taking care of the ball. I only had him for one turnover, and he played about 99% of the game. I liked the looks of his pull-up jumper late in the game when the Packers needed a score. He is a cool customer with the ball in his hands. If you are an opposing team, do not foul him late! This junior PG does not miss at the line.
Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-4 G| West Fargo – 9 points and all in the first half. A supreme athlete who blocked shots all night and snatched rebounds from the sky. He was impressive again. Carson is great going to the basket, the zone just bottled him up tonight.
Carter Birrenkott Carter Birrenkott 6'5" | PF West Fargo | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 F| West Fargo –19 points in this game who worked hard against the zone that tried to suffocate him. I was impressed with how hard he runs the floor after makes and misses. Early on WF did a nice job of getting the ball to Carter in transition for easy baskets. He showed his versatility by making a bank-shot runner that started the second half. Carter battled on the boards all game that must get exhausting for the other team. He helped seal the victory late with big rebounds.
Joel Pease Joel Pease 6'5" | SF West Fargo | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 F| West Fargo – 11 points in the game and 5-6 from the line. He is another great FT shooter for the Packers. Joel had a nice floater game tonight putting in a couple of soft shots against the zone. He blocks shots with his long arms and works hard for offensive rebounds. Joel is a consistent steady player. He is an underrated defender who can guard inside or out.
Parker Nelson Parker Nelson 5'11" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |5-11 G| West Fargo – 2 points in the game and fouled out with 11:48 left in the game. He is an impressively strong, athletic defender. He looks to be an agitating on-ball defender that frustrates the opposition.
Fargo Shanley
Braden DeKeyser Braden DeKeyser 6'3" | SF Fargo Shanley | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-3 G| Shanley – 4 points in the game. He is another hustler and grinder that goes full bore all game. Braden does a nice job drawing help and kicking to open teammates.
Conner Kraft Conner Kraft 6'5" | PF Shanley | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-6 F| Shanley – 5 points in the game. Conner had the play of the game in the second half. He had a massive 2-handed “and 1” dunk in traffic. It really was amazing; the dunk was absolutely ESPN worthy!
Emmet Kenney (2021) |6-3 G| Shanley – 11 points in this game. He had an impressive shot clock buzzer-beating pull-up jumper. Emmet is a hard-working guard. He helped lead the charge late to cut the lead to four points. I like how he jump-stops when he gets around the basket and gathers himself. He uses multiple shots fakes and pivots that help him maneuver around the defense.
Matthew Hulstein (2021) |6-4 F| Shanley – 15 hard-earned points in tonight’s game. He is always attacking the defender’s hip. Mathew is an unyielding-worker who does not take plays off. He runs the floor hard which results in easy baskets. Mathews is a creative finisher around the basket.
Tyler Kraft Tyler Kraft 6'2" | SG Shanley | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 G| Shanley – 10 points in the game with 2 three-pointers. He has a smooth looking jump-shot. As he gains confidence and starts to look for his shot he could turn into a nice scorer.
