This was the most intense, competitive, and aggressive game that I have been to this season. Oak Grove drew blood first going up early by a couple of buckets. Casselton got its scoring started by freshman Cole Holzer who hit two 3-pointers to make the score 8-6 with Oak Grove in the lead. The Grovers would score the next two baskets and finish the first quarter up 12-8. From there both teams traded baskets for a few possessions. With 5:30 left in the half Central Cass tied the score 16-16. After the tie, the Squirrels would take a brief lead, but the Grovers snatched it back quickly and went into halftime with a 24-23 lead.
The second half was tightly contested much like the first. Casselton switched up their defense with some half-court odd-front zone and a full-court zone press. This change of pace seemed to tip the Grovers off-kilter a bit and allow the Squirrels to make a bit of a run. Casselton had a big boost from freshman Carter Vrchota in the third quarter who came off the bench and scored 7 points. Casselton ended the third quarter up 35-30. In the fourth quarter, the Squirrels led the whole way with its biggest lead getting up to eight points but was as low as two points. Central Cass had a nice fourth quarter and withstood a few vicious attempts by Oak Grove hoping to come back. Near the end, the Squirrels did a nice job of limiting Oak Grove to one-shot by owning the boards. The Grovers made it interesting down the stretch, but Casselton hit enough free throws to finish the game and win by 6 points.
Made three-pointers- Oak Grove =3 Casselton =7
Game Takeaways –Oak Grove puts up a ton of three-pointers. They are a scary team because of that, they could beat anyone on a night when they are knocking them down in bunches. Casselton is a balanced team with talented guards, hard-working forwards, and two freshman standouts. Both teams work extremely and will be tough outs come March.

Oak Grove
Cody Card (2022) |5-11 G| Oak Grove – 4 points in the game. He leaves it all out on the floor. Cody took a nice charge in the first half and sacrificed his body. He is an intense competitive player.
Noah Swenson Noah Swenson 6'5" | PF Oak Grove | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 F| Oak Grove – 17 points in the game. He can step out and hit the 3-pointer and has a nice touch from 15 feet. Noah is a rim protector on defense. He did a nice job slashing to the paint tonight.
Trevon Rodriguez (2022) |5-11 G| Oak Grove – 7 points in the game. A quick guard who does a nice job taking care of the ball. He has great lateral quickness. Trevon has a nice floater/runner game that he can get off in traffic.
Central Cass
Carter Vrchota (2024) |6-0 G| Central Cass – 7 points in the game. He was fearless off the bench in the third quarter. Carter seemed to change the momentum of the game with his burst in the third. He has a solid outside shot, a strong finisher, and is a confident free-throw shooter.
Cole Holzer (2024) |6-5 F| Central Cass – 6 points in the game. He put in two 3-pointers to start the game. Cole moves his feet well on defense for a 6’5” freshman. He had a big-time block late to take away a Grover shot.
Josh Dixon (2021) |6-5 F| Central Cass – 12 points in the game. The first thing that stuck out was how hard he worked for rebounds. He was an O-boarding machine tonight. Josh does not force anything on offense and takes what the D gives him. He was big in the fourth quarter from the charity stripe going 3-4.
Logan Prochnow (2021) |6-4 F| Central Cass – 2 points in the game. His only scoring game in the fourth when they needed it most. He has a long wingspan that makes him a good rebounder. Logan is a legitimate defender. He was in foul trouble tonight, which resulted in spotty playing time and limited numbers on offense.
Max Kobbervig Max Kobbervig 5'10" | PG Central Cass | 2021 State ND (2021) |5-10 G| Central Cass – 5 points in the game. A capable shooter from beyond the arc. He runs the show for the Squirrels and takes care of the ball. Max is a strong physical rebounder for a guard.
Sam Kobbervig (2023) |6-1 G| Central Cass – 15 points in the game. He was the best player on the court tonight and looks to be a gamer. Sam made two monster 3-pointers in the fourth to help win the game. He does not always drive to score; he drops dimes also. Sam is a good leaper with great hang time. I was impressed with a crafty pull-up bank shot he made. Sam also made two clutch free-throws late in the game.
