Hoops 2.0 kicked off its winter showcase the weekend of 1/2 as one of those events looking to help players get exposure opportunities as they await final word on the regular season.
I was able to attend the showcase this most recent weekend and there was quite a bit of talent on display. Here’s a look at some of the players who stood out at the event.
1. Barrington Hargress Barrington Hargress 6'0" | PG Ribet Academy | 2022 CA-S – Ribet Academy 2022
Hargress is a player I’ve seen quite a few times now and he’s one of the toughest guards in SoCal. He’s got a great motor and he’s very strong, especially when going to the rim. He can attack off the dribble and finish at the rim. Pretty solid three-point shooter as well. Where he’s improved is his playmaking. He’s comfortable making plays for his teammates in the halfcourt, finding the open player around the rim or off drive and kicks.
2. Ring Malith – Renaissance Academy 2022
Malith has a lot of upside and has some very visible skills, especially on the perimeter. He’s got good length and is in the mold of tall wing player. He’s comfortable handling the ball and making plays off the dribble. He can catch the ball on the wing and make a move to the rim. He has range out to the three-point line and can knock down little midrange fadeaways. Uses his length to contest shots on the perimeter and in the paint.
3. Ben Shtolzberg Ben Shtolzberg 6'4" | SG Notre Dame | 2022 State CA-S – Southern California Academy 2022
Shtolzberg is one of the top point guard propsects in SoCal. He’s in the mold of a big/tall point guard. He’s a player I’ve seen play since he was a freshman and he’s made big strides since then. He’s always been a knockdown shooter from three-point range and he can slash his way to the rim as well. He’s comfortable dribbling under defensive pressure and he can find the open teammate. He can play a little shooting guard too.
4. Josh Steinberg – Portola 2021
Steingberg is an effective scorer on the perimeter. He can shoot the three ball with consistency and he can knock down step back jumpers over the defense. Shoots it well from the midrange and can stop and pop. He’s also able to get to the rim and finish. Defensively, he applies good pressure and can force turnovers. Has some playmaking to his game as well; can run the pick and roll solidly.
