Hoops 2.0 kicked off its winter showcase the weekend of 1/2 as one of those events looking to help players get exposure opportunities as they await final word on the regular season.
I was able to attend the showcase this most recent weekend and there was quite a bit of talent on display. Here’s a look at some of the players who stood out at the event.
1. Geo Mikan – St Augustine
Mikan is a player who stood out for knowing his role and playing it well. He’s a big man who’s going to crash the boards and finish at the rim. He’s very active and he has good hands. Strong on the glass; he fight for offensive rebounds and keeps possessions alive. Snakes in for put backs at the rim. A very strong player in the paint who is tough to move around. Able to get good rebounding position.
2. Andrew Pipersburgh – Serra 2021
Pipersburgh is a good defensive player in the paint. He is an interior anchor and shot blocker who contests well on drives to the rim. He has good size and he’s a strong rebounder, especially on the offensive end where he gets good position for put back attempts. He moves well without the ball, making good cuts around the rim and getting himself open in the paint where he finishes strong. Good athlete.
3. Chris Dockery Chris Dockery 6'5" | SF Bonanza | 2021 CA-S – Middlebrooks Academy 2021
Dockery is a slasher with a solid off the dribble game. He can handle defensive pressure and he can draw fouls on his drives and get to the free-throw line. Has very good length. He’s an athletic finisher who can get out on the break and sprint ahead of the defense. He’s a wing that is solid ball-handler in transition. Good footwork in the paint to step around defenders and get to the rim.
4. Dreshaun Doyne – Southern California Academy 2021
A Central Arkansas commit, Doyne does a lot of little things that don’t always show up with stats. He’s very active around the rim fighting for offensive rebounds and battling for put-backs. Skies in over the defense for rebounds. He can really elevate and soar over the defense; athletic finisher at the rim. He’s also a tough player defensively, contesting well at the rim and using his length to bother players on jump shots.
