Hoops 2.0 kicked off its winter showcase the weekend of 1/2 as one of those events looking to help players get exposure opportunities as they await final word on the regular season.
I was able to attend the showcase this most recent weekend and there was quite a bit of talent on display. Here’s a look at some of the players who stood out at the event.
1. Josh Ragsdale – JSerra Catholic 2022
Ragsdale is a slasher who puts the ball on the floor and attacks the defense. He’s a good finisher at the rim. Good body control and can finish with contact. He has good offensive footwork and solid moves especially around the rim. He can also shoot from three-point range. Defensively he has good size and length to bother shots on the perimeter. He contests jumpers well without fouling. Pretty good upside.
2. Xavier Edmonds Xavier Edmonds 6'8" | PF Bishop Montgomery | 2023 State #245 Nation CA-S – Bishop Montgomery 2023
Edmonds is one of the more intriguing big men prospects in SoCal. He’s very strong in the paint with a nice combination of size and skill. He’s a solid rebounder, especially on the offensive glass fighting for put-backs and extra shot attempts at the rim. He’s got a nice touch around the rim and can get his shot off against most defenders. Good motor and has good hands. Showing an added ability to make plays off the dribble.
3. Oziyah Sellers Oziyah Sellers 6'3" | SG Modesto Christian | 2022 #162 Nation CA-S – Southern California Academy 2022
Sellers has all the makings of being a strong point guard. He plays with good pace and is composed under defensive pressure. He can also play shooting guard as well. He can score either by attacking the rim or shooting from the outside, but what I really noticed was his commitment to defense. He has good hands and creates turnovers with his ball pressure. He can start the break with his defense coming up with steals. Just a solid floor leader overall.
4. Isaiah Daniels – Compton 2021
Daniels is capable of playing both guard positions. When I saw him play, he was mostly at the two guard, but showed some point guard ability as well. He can break down the defense and get all the way to the rim or he can pull-up and shoot off the dribble. Decent shooter from three-point range. Defensively, he can lock up. Applies strong on-ball pressure and contests jumpers well. Can stay with his man off ball too and deny the pass.
