Hoops 2.0 kicked off its winter showcase the weekend of 1/2 as one of those events looking to help players get exposure opportunities as they await final word on the regular season.
I was able to attend the showcase this most recent weekend and there was quite a bit of talent on display. Here’s a look at some of the players who stood out at the event.
1. Isaiah Brickner – St. Augustine 2021
Brickner is a big point guard. He has some of the best court vision I’ve seen this winter. He keeps his head up on the break and is a very unselfish player always looking to make the right play. Good ball-handler who can handle defensive pressure. His size enables him to be a decent rebounder and he starts the break off a board; aggressive on the glass. Runs the floor well in transition and plays with good pace. Offensively, he’s strong off the dribble and getting to the rim.
2. Lorenzo Marsh Lorenzo Marsh 6'5" | SF St. Anthony | 2021 State CA-S – Long Beach Poly 2021
Marsh is a player who I first saw a couple of years ago and he’s made some strong improvements since then. He’s become a more consistent three-point shooter who looks very comfortable letting it fly from distance. He’s also an improved ball-handler who is capable of creating his own shot on the perimeter and making solid passes. He’s always been active around the rim, especially using his length on the glass. Has the tools to be an effective defender.
3. Joshua Smith – Culver City 2021
Smith is a good ball-handling wing who is always in attack mode. He can get into the lane with dribble penetration and he’s a strong finisher at the rim. He has good body control when attacking the defense at the rim and he can draw contact and get himself to the free-throw line. He can play pretty well off the ball as well, making good cuts and dives around the rim and getting himself open for back door cuts. Good playmaker who can find the open teammate.
4. Skylar Wilson – Southern California Academy 2021
An Eastern Washington commit, Wilson is a flat-out shooter. He can shoot from three-point range and he can move in closer and knock down the midrange. He likes that one to two dribble pull-up and knocks it down with consistency. Also thrives as a catch and shoot player with a quick release who’s always ready to shoot. He’s got great length and he has a little bit of a slashing game to him as well.
